Washington Post editorial board: Kelly owes Dem rep an apology

The Washington Post's editorial board is calling on White House chief of staff John Kelly to apologize to Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) after he mischaracterized her remarks from a 2015 event, calling her an "empty barrel" at a press briefing this week.

"White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly owes Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-Fla.) an apology. That is the only conclusion that can be drawn after watching a video of the representative’s remarks at the dedication of an FBI building in Miramar, Fla., in 2015," the board wrote on Friday.

"It is unfortunate that the sacrifice of brave people such as these two agents or the four soldiers killed in Niger can get overwhelmed by the petty name-calling of politics. That is a point Mr. Kelly was trying to make Thursday, and that he undercut with his misrepresentation of Ms. Wilson. He needs to set the record straight."

FBI dedicates new headquarters to slain agents

The fierce but airy 380,000-square-foot building that recycles sunlight and water on a 20-acre campus is named for the fallen agents. It is expected to cost $194 million and stands along Southwest 145th Avenue and the east side of Interstate 75.

Now called the Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Building, U.S. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson, D-Miami, was credited with pushing naming legislation through Congress in four weeks that was signed Tuesday by President Barack Obama in time for Friday's ceremonies.

FBI Miami's new Miramar headquarters will be named Friday for Special Agents Benjamin Grogan, 53, and Jerry Dove, 30, who did not survive a shootout that the FBI says has the highest casualty count in bureau history.

"Rep. Wilson truly did the impossible, and we are eternally grateful," FBI Director James Comey said.

Among a bipartisan South Florida Congressional delegation were U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Carlos Curbleo, Mario Diaz-Balart and Wilson.

U.S. Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, who leads the U.S. Southern Command, represented the military. From law enforcement were FBI Miami Special Agent in Charge George L. Piro and Wifredo Ferrer, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

La David Johnson, a fallen soldier. To drive home that criticism, Kelly drew on a speech he heard Wilson deliver at the Miami field office dedication ceremony in 2015.

"A congresswoman stood up, and in a long tradition of empty barrels making the most noise, stood up there in all of that and talked about how she was instrumental in getting the funding for that building, and how she took care of her constituents because she got the money, and she just called up President Obama, and on that phone call, he gave the money, the $20 million, to build the building, and she sat down," Kelly said Thursday. "And we were stunned, stunned that she'd done it. Even for someone that is that empty a barrel, we were stunned."

Reporter asks a question about an ambush that killed four American soldiers. Trump refuses to address the question to instead talk (lie) about how great he is compared to previous presidents in contacting the families of people killed in the line of duty. Only because he turned the spotlight on the issue, people began to talk about his contacts with Gold star families especially after a call to one in which he was inarticulate in expressing the thanks of a grateful nation.

Instead of apologizing for what the family and others perceived to be an insensitive comment, Crooked Donnie Small Hands instead went on the attack....and drug General Kelly into the quagmire.

General Kelly incorrectly recalled a speech given by Congresswoman Wilson and, again, instead of apologizing and letting this all blow over, the White House is defiant and refuses to apologize for making inaccurate statements about Representative Wilson.

So "the media" asked a valid question about four soldiers killed in an ambush and this is where we are.
