From what I understand there was a fair amount of technical discussion regarding the function of semi-automatic firearms at oral arguments.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and the court will slide in a declaration that magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles are “bearable arms” and thus enjoy the protection of the 2nd, regardless of the accessories mounted to same.

And then maybe they will GVR the pending AWB appeals with instructions to reconsider with their ruling in mind.

Certainly, if the Reich-wing court is as activist as we are told, they would do such a thing.

Speaking in technical terms is problematic. Just as likely to cause greater confusion than basic understanding. The core issue is accessories. Gun grabbers never stop. Next will be optics, recoil reduction, or something more sinister.

Best I can come up with is Paddock wanted to make a political statement about 'assault weapons' with the hopes of getting them banned.
