So, now that the GOP can pass anything they want & get the dumbass orange POS to sign them, one of their first moves is to weaken ethics enforcement.

Funny how that works.

Democrats put it in & Republicans take it out.

Already a thread on this.

If the "ethics office" was legit, they would have been working double shifts for the last eight years.

"The 119-to-74 vote during a GOP conference meeting means that the House rules package expected to be adopted Tuesday, the first day of the 115th Congress, would rename the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) as the Office of Congressional Complaint Review and place it under the oversight of the House Ethics Committee.

The OCE was created in 2008 to address concerns that the Ethics Committee had been too timid in pursuing allegations of wrongdoing by House members. Under the current House ethics regime, the OCE is empowered to release a public report of its findings even if the Ethics Committee chooses not to take further action against a member."

House GOP Votes to Gut Independent Ethics Office

It sounds like they are simply renaming an ethics group created in 2008 and putting it under the oversight of the House Ethics committee. It would be helpful to hear what that OCE did for the past eight years. How else do we know it is worth keeping and/or if this bill is simply reorganizing tasks?

Now you've gone and spoiled the liberal narrative, racist.

Im still not sure how I feel about this. It was created by a goober. However, putting people in charge of it that it is supposed to be watching? Sounds fucked up.
I would like to know its history.

If it's simply streamlining for efficiency, I'm good with it. If it enables more corruption and unethical behavior to go unpunished, then it will hurt the Republicans in 2018 and, especially, 2020.

The Republicans have long stated that if given full control, they'll fix everything. Well, now they have their chance. If they fuck it up, the voters will turn on them like they did on the Democrats.

Liberals have ethics? I call bull. Sounds like a waste of tax money to employ people.
Democrats wanted it. Republicans don't.

Only a moron would not understand.
Republicans are pissed because that office kept catching therm being dishonest cheats.

Only if the corruption is actually brought to light.

They are gutting it while duping people into thinking otherwise.

A dishonest cheat? That's the worse kind innit? Ethics and law are two different things. Thanks for the lecture anyway.

Fact is the GOP will have its' hands full investigating the corrupt leftist government that preceded them.

Plenty of history as to how this type of thing always ends. Partisanshit will again provide all the cover required.

I'm sure that's how they'll approach it and how the corporate state media will pitch it. "Hey, all you little people, look over here, no, over here."

If that were true, then why did the Democrats lie about how they selected their candidate for President?

If our politicians in the House don't need it, then neither do the poor for social services.

Was the corruption brought to light in the eight years of the committee's existence? You don't seem to have any information on this committee. All you offer are your assumptions.
