Looking at NYU's Dean's Undergraduate Research Fund here it says:

Through the generosity of parents, alumni, and friends of the College, an endowed Fund provides grants to assist a student's own research, whether to help with the gathering of data and information, or in the presentation of the results at an academic conference.

umm... in what way is it "racist" to simply identify what a person's race is?

The first comment on the link's page reads:

Thank you. Ol' Staph would like to lay anything she does not like at the foot of the government. That 'Conservatives' tend to be racist is hardly news. Just look at the number of posts on this venue concerning the fact that the 'whites' are losing the majority in this nation. They consider anyone not 'pure' white to be a minority.
