Thank you Peach, Because of people like him the human species is not completely bad. My father was a hero twice, he did not hesitate to save the lives of people in danger.

More on Sgt. Perez:

A 60-year-old veteran Houston police officer died after he drove into floodwaters on his way to work Sunday morning, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said in an emotional press conference today.

On Sunday at around 4 a.m., Sgt. Steve Perez left his home amid torrential rains, Acevedo said. After Perez drove on dark roads for two-and-a-half hours while trying to get to his duty station in downtown Houston, Perez called his commander to say he couldn't make it in, Acevedo said.

Perez then followed protocol and attempted to drive to the secondary station in Houston's Kingwood neighborhood, Acevedo said.

The next day, Perez's chain of command was holding regular roll call when he noticed Perez was not present, the police chief said. Attempts to reach him were not answered, and his wife said she hadn't seen him since 4 a.m. on Sunday, Acevedo said.

Perez was a "dedicated individual that would not just show up to work," Acevedo said.

Also two high pressure system along with a Tropical depression off the East coast kept the storm from moving.

It was the perfect storm.

Cleanup is now going to be next and rebuilding.

The mayor, County Officials and Governor did their jobs!

Anyone that believe they could have done better need to come here and show us simple minded folks where we went wrong!
I did not understand why the Mayor of Houston said on August 27 to the people to stay at home? And to climb on the roof and wait for help, should he would have not say to avacuate?

To answer your question you need to know the region.

Houston itself is the fourth largest city in America and between Corpus to Beaumont we have five to seven million people.

So calling for evacuation would have been another disaster.

During Rita ( Another Hurricane ) they called for evacuation and almost 200 people died.

So no calling for evacuation would have been dangerous and where do you send them?

There was no answer yo the problem except sit and wait and hope you could ride it out.

Just reported that Houston had Nine trillion Gallons of water.

They said the amount of water could cover the lower 48 with .17 inches of rain.

This storm was historical!
