Has Civilization Reached a Plateau?

Tech has been a disaster in many ways as well. Like how an EMP could cause the weak American sheep to go into chaos and start killing themselves/each other because the narcissists cant check their fuckin facebook.
nuclear warheads

The farther we get in space, the more we understand space, will improve our lives for the better.
That's why I don't get why people want to cut space exploration.

The only way space becomes a legit exploration goal is if we can overcome the limits on the speed of light.
The distances involved are just to great otherwise.
Absolutely. But why restrict them with budget "concerns"?
NASA made the world 10X better.
Probably added 15 years to average life expectancy by itself lol
IDK maybe I don't understand the process with that.

At this point I dont see any real benefits to space exploration since we really cant get past Mars at this point, and we know there's nothing for us as far as colonizing goes.
I would say a permanent base on the moon would be the next step and would be far more useful than the International space station in regards to learning the ins and outs of colonizing an inhospitable planet.
But by all means we need to keep plugging away at the difficulties regarding space travel.

Improvement is progress, but it's not innovation. I look at the plethora of new inventions my grandparents saw introduced that made their lives simpler and easier. I can only think of a few in tha past 50 years.

Come on? your Grandma had her Tit caught in a ringer literally! Now they have Gas dryers stacked up that shut off when sense clothes are dry! Are you kidding me. People were beating sheets on rocks. Now they got hot water inside the house. No more wood heat. No outhouses. rotary phones were gone 30 years ago........every single thing is better faster easier. More leisure time. Metal headed Golf drivers light weight. CARS park themselves. more every day. you don't see it?

WIFI and Portable Computers alone should kill this entire subject. Next time you drive your freakin' Tesla down I-5 and the blinker goes on or the brake light...........look at nearby cars. you may be hacked.

this seems ungrateful to me. no one sees how much innovation has been dumped on them?

Reading and comprehension are not your strong points. Move along to the kiddie table now.

These arent really innovations as much as improvements on existing tech.
Other than the computer we've kinda stalled.

Computers were used in WW2. Yeah, they are smaller and faster, but not new.

Now with the insults. sigh.

B2 stealth bomber. seedless watermelon. ABS, Drones..........OK enjoy your upper tier.

New Hover board and those stand up cycle like Mall Cop uses?

oh right, because they had covered wagons, those are not really new just an improvement.

But they are the biggest tech improvement of our time.

In the late 1800's my grandmother was brought to the west in a wagon. She passed in 1975. As she lived her life she saw electricity move into the house, along with telephones, radios, TV's, air conditioning, forced air heating, refrigerators, gas stoves, and microwave ovens. Even home computers were starting to be introduced. Outside she saw automobiles, airplanes be introduced as well as men walking on the moon.

In my life I cannot think of many life technological introductions as I get up in years that are true life changers. We have smart phones, which we use to send pictures of cats with and text while driving. We have some noninvasive medical diagnostic devices. We have internet that is primarily used for pornography and ordering Christmas gifts. But pretty much everything is just a faster and improved version of what already existed 50 years ago. Cars are still cars, planes just fly faster and further, my TV gets Netflix but it's still a TV. But today America can't get a man into space, I will be lucky to obtain the lifespan of my grandparents, our education system vs what kids were learning a century ago is pathetic, roads and bridges take 10x longer to build, etc etc. There have been very few life changing technologies introduced in the last 50 years.

I think humanity hit a ceiling sometime around 1970.
What say you?
I guess I agree, to a degree. The caveat is that your grandmother saw what has to be the single greatest change in a life time ever. It's going to be hard to top.

I believe the next great advance will be solar energy. At the rate advances are being made now it's not difficult to imagine that in a decade or two we may finally have an energy source available to all without constraints. That would free up people and minds and perhaps lead to the next leap. Cheap decentralized energy could provide a lot, desalination not the least. So much of the world is trying to survive and not dreaming of the next great thing. I've often thought that the person meant to cure cancer is probably hauling water on her back somewhere.

I'll also agree with other posters as far as space. I admit to being a Trekkie. I like the shows but I really want my descendants to live it.

I think you miss the point. His grandmother went from horse drawn wagons to men landing on the moon. Pretty hard to top that. Splitting the atom, chromosomes, heart transplants, TV, the Beatles, the Cleveland Indians winning the World Series. Pretty incredible stuff.

I think we have here in the United states. we are now outnumberd by people who has no morals, honor and pride is something they only brag about when they can step on another person or win an election by nothing but dirty politics.

. Just look at the Progressive/ democrat PARTY and their cult followers

Umm...

The Internet is arguably the single most important "life changing technology" in history.

Maybe in my lifetime. But nothing compared to getting a refrigerator, car or air conditioner for the first time. Or getting on an airplane to fly to Europe instead of a voyage by ship.

How they can use tax payer money to change natural earth evolution is pretty fuckin amazing if you ask me

There's two reasons this country advanced so fast in teh early to mid 20th century.
1. Unions and regulations(anti-trust laws) allowed small businesses to form that couldn't do so when the giants controlled everything. Now we're heading back to that.
2. Government spent through your taxes as much as 70% of the total funding for r&d between 1930 into the 1970s. Guess what, the government through its investment made the internet possible and thousands of other things that we take for granted.

Loserterianism is the most terrible idea in the history of this country.
