In 1778 there were 27,951 actual British troops fighting in the Colonies to bolster the 30,000 Hessians. The British couldn't get any of their capable officers to command in North America, for instance, Sir William Howe was 111th in seniority of British generals when he was picked for command, no one senior to him would accept the post. French army direct support was always small, in the Siege of Savannah, only 3,000 French troops were deployed. The French landed 6,000 troops at Newport, who mostly sat around and took no offensive operations. They were finally committed to combat in the Siege of Yorktown with four thousand reinforcements making up half of the besieging force. French forces never amounted to even a half of the Hessian force, and a quarter of the Crown's total force. By mid-1780, the British were on the defensive everywhere in the colonies with most of their forces boxed up in a few cities. Here's an ugly secret. Most of the Jews of Germany and Austria survived the war. They were able to get out before the war started, or they were considered "German enough" to be spared.
Most of the Jews who were killed were in either countries the Nazis overran, or countries that allied themselves with the Nazis. The biggest group came from Poland, where 3 million Polish Jews (and 3 million non-Jewish Poles) were killed during the war.
Hey, the Poles did make attempts to resist the Nazis with Guns, such as the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. They managed to kill a whopping 19 Germans before 52,000 of them were killed and the rest sent to the camps.
