We can spend less time accepting as scripture that which we see in the media.

We can study the issues, study the candidates, and vote our conscience based on what we have learned.

At the National level, to be a politician, they have to have Sociopathic tendencies just to do the job.

They literally cannot get torn up about every life they lose, or mistake they make ... Or they would never be an effective Leader.
They have to lie and exclude things they know from what they say ... Simply as a matter of National Security in some cases.

The 'culture wars' were lost in the schools first.

There is no quick fix, it takes generations, and you don't have that kind of time, much less even the will to do so.

We can't. We can only look at any given person's track record and watch how they behave.

IMO, Trump is certainly a narcissist, but I evaluate him on his accomplishments as a President rather than his personality. Jimmy Carter, on the other hand, had mastered the art of looking so very pious, but was a disaster as a President.

Government is a natural part of humanity. The first time somebody says "Somebody should do something about ________" and your neighbor agrees, you set in motion government action. Somebody then moves in and say "I'll do something about it!" and you give him/her power and authority.

The only course is to establish and hold tight to limited government. Check and balances are a tool to keep people from getting too powerful. Once you allow concentration of powers, it's hard to reverse that. History shows foolish people over time allow growth in government.

Power is a powerful aphrodisiac and attracts those who wish to wield power. The only recourse is for people to be educated and have the moral integrity to elect those who push back against unrestrained growth, else, and unfortunately, bloodshed is the only other course.
