Keep up will ya? US started supporting Israel in the mid 1960's when it realized Arab countries like Syria and Egypt had become Soviet client states. It was more about US national security than anything else. By then Israel had fought all its major wars.

And yet, while not one American soldier has fought in any of Israel's military missions, you have the Rooskies there bombing and killing Assad's people at will. If Assad had the support of his people there wouldn't be over 300,000 dead Syrians would there?
