This came to be via e-mail from a friend who did not claim to have originated it. It may or may not be true but it should occasion a little pondering:

Mt. Vernon , Texas ...

Diamond D's brothel began construction on an expansion of their building. The local Baptist Church started a campaign to block the business from expanding -- with morning, afternoon, and evening prayer sessions at their church.

Work on Diamond D's progressed right up until the week before the grand re-opening when lightning struck the whorehouse and burned it to the ground. The church folks bragged about "the power of prayer."

But late last week Diamond D, Inc. sued the church, the preacher and the entire congregation on the grounds that the church ... "was ultimately responsible for the demise of the building and business -- either through direct or indirect divine actions or means." In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied any and all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.

The crusty old judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply, and at the opening hearing he commented: "I don't know how the hell I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, that we now have a whorehouse owner who staunchly believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that thinks it's all bullshit."

OK, brethern 'n cistern.....whether the story is or is not true what do you think a jury composed of 12 honest Mt. Vernon citizens might decide?

Good question!

Just guessing that if there had been insurance it would have been the insurer suing rather than the whorehouse proprietor.

Of course all conjecture as the story may or not have been real. It's the philosophical implications that challenge. Except, of course, for the religious fanatic fringe who know everything about everything because they read it in a book or had it shouted in their faces.

“It may or may not be true...”

But you went ahead an posted it anyway.

WOOOOSSSSHHHHHH!

Perhaps have an adult sound out the words. The POINT was and still IS to discuss the proposition not to debate whether or not it was factual. Of course that was clearly stated in the original post so a reading comprehension deficiency is one possibly cause of the confusion. The other possibilities are less, shall we say, charitable.

To save anyone from having to go all the way back and actually read the whole thing, here's the relevant part as it appeared, in bold-face:

I don't agree. Take religion out f the equation.

The accusation is prayer caused the destruction of his property by devine intervention. So when 12 people acquit on sheer silliness of the charges that too can be blamed on prayer. Pretending they convict, surely the same congregation would have prayed for acquittal, therefore making the entire argument moot based on the lack of divine intervention as a follow up to previous actions. It's a circular argument that can't be won.

in most states, the lawsuit would have to be dismissed.....the agent of a disclosed principal is not responsible for the actions of the principal.........

It's a good thing no one is asking you religious cranks for legal advise.

35 years of janitorial work hardly qualifies you to offer legal advise.
