The bill, SB 1291 would create a “Lethal Order of Protection” whereby the firearms of Illinois residents could be confiscated if a family member or “law officer” files a petition stating the gun owner “poses an immediate and present danger of causing personal injury to himself, herself, or another by having … [a firearm] in his or her custody or control.”

SB 1291 includes an inclusion of “ex parte” orders, which means an order to take the guns of an Illinois resident could be issued without that resident’s presence during the process in which the order was issued. The order, issued by a judge, would be established exclusively on a brief, unsubstantiated affidavit made by a petitioner and absent any input made by the individual on which the order is targeted, according to the NRA-ILA.

Once the order is signed by a judge, the firearm owner must “(1) refrain from having in his or her custody or control, owning, purchasing, possessing, or receiving additional firearms for the duration of the order; and (2) turn over to the local law enforcement agency any firearm, Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, or concealed carry license in his or her possession.”



WOW! This is worse than I expected. This will end up at supreme court and as the OBVIOUS assault on our 2nd amendment rights that it is be declared unconstitutional. As usual the idiot politicians don't realize that CRIMINALS don't legally buy guns!!!!!! This does NOTHING to stop criminals!

This is how most liberal policies start out. They say they are only going after criminals. Then the criteria gets more and more lax until it virtually covers everyone. They are already wanting to place military vets on the list of "crazy people" who shouldn't have guns. Anyone who suffered even minor depression (like after the death of a loved one) will be put on the list of those not mentally capable of owning a gun.

If they are allowed to go down this path, eventually they will have no trouble finding "cause" to take everyone's guns. Except the criminals, of course, because they have no idea where those guns are since they don't follow the law when obtaining them.

The left is more upset when a homeowner shoots an intruder than they are about the armed intruder breaking into the home in the first place.

Lots of states have less to pull guns (temporarily, after a hearing ) if you can show the person is a danger . You see it with restraining orders .

This is a non-story really. However, it would be a huge story if we had President Hillary in office. Right now, this measure doesn't even stand a chance in the Supreme Court once Justice Gorsuch takes his seat. With Hillary? Somebody may challenge it up to the Supreme Court and they would rule in favor of the state.

You can love or hate Trump, but if you hate him, stories like this should make you thankful he won the presidency just for this one issue alone.
