It's just tiresome seeing everyone play both sides if the fence depending on the situation.

A great many things have happened between then and now. At the time Romney was simply trying to tap into the residual cold war fears of the boomers, he was not actually foreseeing the future. Had Russia actually invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea, hacked an election and cracked down hard on dissent at the time no one would have disagreed. If you are suggesting he saw all this coming you are giving him credit for a level of geo-political insight not even republicans thought he had.
