How would you define a cult?

Being a person of faith, I define a cult that focuses on anything more than God himself. This means cult of personality can become a cult, even if that personality claims to be a man or woman of God. I've seen countless examples of churches following after a cult of personality such as Jim Jones. I also see cults form whose focus is the organization, like Scientology, JW's. or Mormons, etc. Various sects among Christendom can also fall into this hole.

Speaking of Jim Jones, the man who made the phrase famous, "Don't drink the cool aid", he was a Methodist Preacher who was focused on two things, racial inequality and Marxism. Sound familiar? No, his focus was not on God and had those following him held Jim accountable to scripture instead of just following the cult of personality, they would not have all drank his cool aid and died.

And so it goes, after last century saw Marxism kill around 100 million people, more than any other ideology, people are still drinking the cool aid more than ever!
