A lot of people these days seem more obsessed with reality show horseshit and the Marvel universe. A lot of people are obsessed with fake heroes like Luke Skywalker and Captain Underpants instead of the real deal like John Glenn and Sally Ride.

Yes. How can it not ?
How can people whose minds are occupied by fiction and fantasy
grasp the real world, much less contribute to it in a meaningful way ?
Then again, if you're really good at video games, you can be a drone pilot.

On the other hand, for the people in real world occupations maybe escaping to
Netflix-land is what keeps them from losing it.

I believe it's the latter.

I was in Barnes & Noble yesterday and they had divided the science fiction and fantasy novels. The fantasy section was nearly four times as large as the science fiction section.

Then there is the comedy that is so overstupid, so exaggerated it isn't remotely funny. Even serious nature shows are obsessed with stating the glaringly obvious.
