We hear liberals complaining about the recent shutdown. blaming Republicans. Making it sound like an unforgivable crime. What does history tell us about which party is responsible for most government shut downs?

Shock Stat: 15 of Last 18 Government Shutdowns Came Under This House Party’s Watch

Here’s the government shutdown score for each party, counted by whoever held office or was in the majority at the time. While many insist that the Republicans own the shutdown, both parties are involved in divided government shutdowns historically.

When Presidents will not negotiate with a branch of Congress, there is a threat of a shutdown. The government has “shut down” part of its services for far less consequential reasons than dispute over a huge entitlement program passed along party lines that does virtually nothing what was promised.

First, the Republicans’ shutdown statistics:
◾Presidents: 10
◾Senate: 9
◾House: 3
◾Avg. shutdown length (days): 14

And now, the Democrats’ shutdown statistics:
◾Presidents: 8
◾Senate: 9
◾House: 15
◾Avg. shutdown length (days): 5.6

Great post.

How about when Democrats shut down the Jimmy Carter government:

Shutdown: Jimmy Carter vs. the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier

Who controlled the Senate? Democrats, 59-41; Robert Byrd was majority leader
Who controlled the House? Democrats, 292-143; Tip O'Neill was speaker
Why did it happen? Congress passed a defense bill including funding for a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Carter judged that carrier wasteful and vetoed it. He also vetoed a public works appropriations bill because of water projects that he considered wasteful pork. Additionally, spending for HEW was delayed, once again, over a dispute concerning funding for abortion.
Here is every previous government shutdown, why they happened and how they ended

Who ever said it's only wrong when Republicans do it?

Is it really wrong for a Party to shut sown the Government?
.

yes, indeed.

The Founding Fathers wanted a DIVIDED government to prevent tyranny , ie concentrated power.

Each branch - the executive - congress (house controlled by the people and senate controlled by the states ) and the SCOTUS would prevent a bill from becoming law unless ALL AGREE THAT IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

GRIDLOCK was a necessary feature. It was supposed to act like an electrical fuse box.

Unfortunately narcotized victims of government "education" want power concentrated.

I gotta make sure I understand this point. Are you using Jimmie Carter, the President that that right wingers have determined is the WORST President of ALL TIME, you are using that guy as an example for how to cut wasteful spending authorized by Congress? By using the Presidential veto?

If so, that's interesting.

A big raspberry at the premise that it was Republicans who shut down the government.

Obama was the one who declared he would not compromise.

Obama is the one who pontificates about the need for bipartisanship while insulting people who don't agree with him.

Obama was the one who claimed the ACA could not be modified while his administration has done it over and over.

The Democrats shut down the government as surely as the Republicans did.

And Obama himself voted in 2006 for what he claims is irresponsible now.

So the hypocrites on the left can kiss my grits. Same with John McCain. And a huge thank you to all the Republicans who tried to keep the promises they made when they were campaigning for office.

No. As usual you lack any reading comprehension whatsoever. What Jimmy Carter did there was a complete contradiction of the current Democratic platform.

It's what we call an irony, zeke.
