Naturally, Herr Weil Ich Weiss, the teenage wunderkind, ignores articles in American papers reporting on Muslim Americans disregarding the embargo. Plus there are other incidents of Muslims smuggling arms into other countries like Nigeria which is considered a crime. I doubt very much if he has a problem with Iranian arms being smuggled through the tunnels into Gaza so that his Gazan friends came use them against the Israelis.

The Israelis are pragmatists. They know that the Iranians are going to have an Air Force, no matter what anyone does or what embargoes are in place. One might ask why. The answer is simple. It is much much better for everyone concerned that the Iranian Air Force to upgrade and maintain Vietnam War vintage F-4 Phantom aircraft that are easily handled by 21st Century fighters and anti-aircraft systems than to force them to upgrade their fighters to weapons platforms more difficult to engage and defeat.

It is better off for all the defense forces in the Middle East and Persian Gulf to have the opponent [Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF)] sink money into near antique aircraft (60 F-4D/E Models with Chinese-built RADAR and avionics) than to modernize.

There is much more to the story and insight then the article would lead one to believe. Fore, it is not always about money, but how best to address a threat. Some of these Phantoms are nearly 40 years old. It is much better to keep them in the IRIAF inventory then to let them be replaced, if you can help it.
