'It just exploded': Springfield woman claims she never meant to spark false rumors about Haitians​

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The woman behind an early Facebook post spreading a harmful and baseless claim about Haitian immigrants eating local pets that helped thrust a small Ohio city into the national spotlight says she had no firsthand knowledge of any such incident and is now filled with regret and fear as a result of the ensuing fallout.

“It just exploded into something I didn’t mean to happen,” Erika Lee, a Springfield resident, told NBC News on Friday.

Lee recently posted on Facebook about a neighbor’s cat that went missing, adding that the neighbor told Lee she thought the cat was the victim of an attack by her Haitian neighbors.

Trump (a person running to be president of our country) who is always saying that the media and the Democrats are spreading FAKE NEWS and because of that, they shouldn't be in power, has just proven himself to be guilty of "spreading FAKE NEWS"

Haitians are not bad people. But they have their ways, and they needed to be told this stuff doesn't fly here. I don't like this level of fluff either, but to deny the Haitians eat cats is to lie, I've seen it. To go grab and decapitate a duck isn't outside of their norms either. They hunt, clean, cook, and it comes out really good.

The MAGA side is overhyping it, but your side is lying, and it did not need to.

Easy solution was for Mayor to hold a "meeting" with the Haitian immigrants and explain to them that this behavior is not consistent with norms and laws here. The Mayor was AWOL and the people aired their observations at the video-ed town meeting.
