Japan has tremendous military potential.....they need to develop their nuclear potential first of all....there are reports they already have a nuclear capability though they keep it under wraps.

Beyond that they need to develop a state of the art anti-aircraft, anti-ship and anti-missle defense whilst also developing a start of the art drone and cruise missle capability.

Japanese has the intelligence and technology to be a formidable obstacle for Chinas obvious desire to control the S. China sea and much more.
