The Ohio governor just cut funding for a program that helped over 2,800 black mothers in 2015.

Everyone knows Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is running as the “nice guy” in the Republican presidential race. But at MSNBC’s recent GOP town hall, he made some nasty comments about black infant mortality rates in his state.

After a question on criminal justice reform, NBC News host Chuck Todd asked Kasich to explain how his efforts in the black community could go further than policing and mass incarceration. Todd listed statistics including the state’s staggering income gap, that Ohio was deemed the sixth worst state to raise a black child by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and that Cleveland is considered one of the of the 10 most segregated cities in the U.S.

Kasich, after saying he didn’t believe those statistics, listed his accomplishments as governor — including school reform and job creation — before oddly pivoting to infant mortality rates.

“The issue of infant mortality is a tough one. We have taken that on and one of the toughest areas to take on is in the minority community,” he said. “And the community itself is going to have to have a better partnership with all of us to begin to solve that problem with infant mortality in the minority community, because we’re making gains in the majority community.”

Ohio has the third highest rate of infant mortality in the nation — and the main organization working to lower those rates had its funding cut by Kasich.

After careful consideration, I have concluded that Kasich is an asshole.

You mean Obamacare didn't solve the problem? After the great expense of ensuring that everyone has healthcare, why do we still need all these additional programs?

Part of the problem is sheer ignorance on part of the parents. They know how to make babies, but not how to take care of them or themselves. With Obamacare, Medicaid and other programs, there is little excuse not to take care of yourself while pregnant and take care of babies after they are born.

It's a tragedy for babies to die from ignorance or neglect. The law now states that everyone must have health insurance and I'm paying way more as a result. If people don't use what is already available to them, they cannot be helped.

The real complaint here is because we're talking about Planned Parenthood. Let's face it, the left isn't worried about the mortality rate of these babies, they just think they should have been killed before birth. While PP's main function is performing abortions, they also claim they help with full term pregnancies. There are plenty of doctors and clinics that can do that, so these women are too stupid to survive if they claim that without a PP they don't have access to healthcare.

If they don't have health insurance, they are in violation of the law. And getting Medicaid is free as well as going to the Obamacare website. So, why do some women think PP is the only way to get healthcare? PP doesn't provide that many services and they send women elsewhere for much of it. That means, PP doesn't need funding for many of the tests and procedures, including prenatal care, since they don't offer much other than routine tests, birth control and abortions. Full term babies are not their thing.

man whatever you do. don't accuse those Democrats and their tools of dividing this country with smears and hate. just look at this disgusting title. my gawd the ugly that comes from that side just never stops. but that's what happens when they don't have anything good to sell, so they have to rely on smears, hate and dirty slimy politics

Liberals could care less about this issue. They want PP, lots of abortions and anything that will kill babies. They are only interested in Save the Trees, Save The Whales and Save The Purple Titted Desert Frog.

It sure seems that these deaths are caused by blacks...and Hispanics!

Don't doubt for a second that Kasich isn't conservative just because he doesn't seem overtly crazy. He is quite conservative and quite Christy.
