Just a late night thought

Late at night, thinking of what might
It is the best time to really see the light
We breathe, we wake, to understand what is at stake
Through life, we live, we learn, we yearn
To burn the fire inside, to know truth of what is
The battle that exists continues to persist
Yet when winter comes we seek warmth
Our fears we battle as life passes by
Yet to know there is only one truth
And that is the love we share
For those for whom we care
We come, we go
But with us we take
That feeling that we cannot let go
We argue, we fight
We all believe we are right
In the end does it matter
When I shake your hand and call you friend

Early in the morning, we are in mourning
For Monday is dawning
We fight the light and long for the night
But we can't stop yawning

We turn on the news, wanting to be amused as we awaken through our sleepy eyes
Our pillows call our name, but alas, we must play the game--of life
We all go to work, all to be driven berserk as the day soldiers on without us

We read in the paper and on the web of all the movers and shakers
Who in reality are the takers, not the lawmakers but the lawbreakers
We never suspect that from day to day they work to take our rights away
There are those of us who see this step by step

We hope against hope that among these missteps there is one who will save the day
We complain about taxes that attack us
But never acknowledge the government spending that wracks us
There are the sheep and those of us awakened from our eternal sleep

We are wise and are not meek, for we stand up and speak
We buck the monotony of life to lament our strife to these movers and shakers
These takers, lawmakers and lawbreakers
We are no fools under their rule

We the people are the steeple not the sheeple
The gleam borne of the light that hurts the eyes
We are to be seen not ignored as the chaos draws nigh
One day we will not mourn the passing of each day
But of the country that has once passed away

Alas we the people shall enter into the fray
With the intent for injustice to allay
We shall restore this land for the many not the few
One day we the people will celebrate
A country risen, restored anew

We ALL go to work?

Hey! I have an idea! Lets all take A007's poem as a sign that we should pretend that we are writers and try to one-up him. Surely we can do better! And...don't concern yourself with trying to grasp the point of his poem......that would be silly!
