Legal US pot sales soar to $5.4B in 2015: Report

That's a lot of money that didn't go to the black market. Maybe we should legalize in more states so more money goes to legitimate businesses rather than black market drug lords.

Legal US pot sales soar to $5.4B in 2015

Legal U.S. pot sales soared to $5.4 billion for 2015, up 17.4 percent from $4.6 billion in 2014, according to data released Monday by the ArcView Group, which tracks the cannabis markets.

"Legitimate business"? Are you aware that pot is illegal? Trust me, federal law trumps state law.
its only a matter of time till pot is at least decriminalized at the federal level....pot taken off of schedule 1 which it should never have been on....

Are you aware that pot is illegal?

Yes, that's why I am advocating for it to be legalized. Legalization leads to legitimate businesses that employ people and pay taxes. Would you rather that money be in the hands of gangs and drug lords?
I would like to see the same kind of drug war here between the Mexican cartels and the US cartel that they have in Mexico . Legalize it, make the US government just another cartel and see who wins.
of course you would, people like you who hate the country and would love to see china take over here are like that.....

How would legal marijuana make the United States comparable to Mexican drug cartels?
You are talking about a word. Legal. To the cartels, what they are doing is legal. Legal or illegal, the act is the same. Distributing drugs to the public for money. That makes the US government just the newest cartel.
well they have been dealing drugs to the public since i have been around, some down right dangerous too.....so how is it any different if they allow pot?...

The money will still be in the hands of gangs and drug lords.

Do you seriously believe it doesn't make a difference? Do you not see that the private sector would benefit immensely? Do you not see that the black market would be hindered? How about all of the money we would save by not enforcing laws that jail people for nonviolent crimes?
as you will find out like the rest of us have your wasting your time.....this woman thinks "Reefer Madness" was one of the great documentaries of the time....

When your kid is high, makes some misjudgment and ends up dead in a drug related incident, will you feel better if he got the pot from a legal outlet?

I don't think your position is logical. I've laid out why it's better to legalize and you have done nothing but deflect my points; I'm moving on.

You may, indeed be right. However, until then it is illegal. Now I understand that you leftists choose to ignore laws that you don't like, but that still makes you criminals.

Don't like the law? You had a couple of years with a democrat as president, a majority in both houses and still your side did nothing. You honestly believe that a republican president, house and senate are going to acquiesce to your nonsense?

It's better to legalize. Especially if it means drug cartels attacking legal outlets. Legalize all drugs. The faster users kill themselves off the better.

Don't you think selling drugs is a job? It's a business. They employ people. The cartels operate the majority of legal outlets.

You're an idiot if you think that the cartels are running the legal outlets in CO. Not only do they have to have a background check BEFORE they can apply for a permit to grow and sell, but so do their employees, as well as there are many different regulations that must be complied with.

Tell ya what, go to an actual 420 store in CO and ask them how they got started, or, if you can't do that, watch some of the documentaries on the History Channel, MSNBC, or CNN, all of which have done some pretty good reporting on how it is working now.

But, if you choose to live in ignorance, carry on.

The cartels should start treating the legal shops as they treat any other cartel business. It's a battle over market share. I hope they start acting like it.

Get pot out of the hands of dealers who will happily encourage you to buy oxys, acid, meth, heroin as well. That's how it used to be back in the day, anyway. Talk of it being a 'gateway' drug will stop pretty quick.

I can't believe idiots today think pot is a drug. The CIA really buttfucked their brainwashed minds with "Reefer Madness." Of course pot should be legal, and it should NOT be taxed. No reason government scum should benefit from person to person freewill activity. Although, welfare folks should be taxed every time they engage in activity that results in possible reproduction
Of course it's a drug. Why on Earth would you think it isn't?

Drug dealers also don't care how old their clientele is. A regulated business will not be allowed to sell to minors. It's harder for high school kids to get their hands on a six pack than it is for them to buy some weed because there is a barrier attempting to prevent them from getting alcohol.

Plants aren't drugs, they're plants. It's only when you start processing a natural substance and extracting the active ingredients out of it that it becomes a drug.

My opinion? If you want to chew cocoa leaves, go right ahead, it's no worse than having a cup of coffee and it helps you acclimate to altitude. However, process the cocoa leaves and extract the cocaine out of it? Then it's a drug.

Smoking plants shouldn't be illegal. We do it with tobacco.

Plants are harmless. They come out of the ground which is why druggies should chew a little foxglove with their peach pit tea.
