If it weren't for the greed of liberal unions, these people would still be employed. Instead, they will now go from low-paying (but good jobs - complete with exceptional benefits) to no jobs with no benefits.

(Machines don't go on strike)

Would you like some microchips with that burger? McDonald's Europe strikes another blow against human interaction by installing 7,000 touch-screen computers to take your order and money.

McDonalds recently went on a hiring binge in the U.S., adding 62,000 employees to its roster. The hiring picture doesn't look quite so rosy for Europe, where the fast food chain is drafting 7,000 touch-screen kiosks to handle cashiering duties.

Yeah, "liberals" put an entire industry out of work.

Wouldn't want to put all of those big government SWAT teams out of work, now would we?

Rottweiler, what is it about some people like you that have great joy in hearing about bad news for working people? You must have a crummy, sick life if this is how you get fulfillment.

You can call McDs a lot of things but "liberal" isn't one of them.

It's to be expected. People just priced themselves out of the market. American liberals will have to stop glorifying European style wages and benefits.

How do you figure I have "great joy" in this? I'm disgusted that liberals are putting the entire nation out of work so as to ensure a growing voter base of dependents on the government plantation.

The real question is, why do you get so angry at people exposing the failure of the Dumbocrat Party and take such great joy in defending them from their own failures?

Be sure to register your complaint with the fifteen self checkouts at your neighborhood Wall Mart, so-called bastion of conservative hiring practices.

Look...this is the world of right wing employment standards. It's not about the employee it's about the profit margin. If McDonald's was more unionized, those displaced employees would have other positions or a fat settlement.

Sure, what right do Americans have wanting affordable health care, decent wages, two or three weeks vacation a year.

Human labor will never be cheaper than automated labor. Unions have absolutely nothing to do with it. That change is coming regardless.

I tend to agree that it is more a "sign of the times" than anything else, although the short-term answer to raising the minimum wage is, indeed, automation.

I refuse to go through those self-checkout lanes, though. I realize that it is coming (and it's coming on quickly) but I don't like the idea of putting someone out of work by using those lanes.

Quit cutting education!

Self check outs are kind of an experiment. Some places embrace them, others don't. There are positives and indeed negatives that go with self check outs. We'll see how well McDonalds does with them.

This is the world some right wingers want. Fire the worthless cashiers that want decent wages. Notice in the movie that the water had electrolytes in it? Who else would do this to people but a chemical corporation? And the right wingers like rottweiler and KD would cheer for this if it enriched corporations to the detriment of ordinary people.

You gotta wonder why Romney claimed that an increase in the minimum wage creates jobs when the opposite is an absolute fact.

I didn't call McDonald's "liberal". Perhaps you haven't been following the news over the past year or so??? Liberals have been screaming to raise the minimum wage to utterly absurd levels. On top of that, they have been encouraging employees of ALL fast food chains to go on strike.

It's more "brilliant" liberal policy of biting the hand that feeds you out of extreme greed. And, as always, their plan has backfired. Rather than deal with ungrateful striking employees and government mandated $25 per hour salaries, businesses are turning to technology.

The few employees that do have a job will probably be better paid. There will just be way fewer of them.

Are e-mail, texting and Internet forums due to Liberal policy?
Technology waits for no one.
BTW Auto-Cashier machines work rather poorly.
