A U.S. District Court was forced to strike down Louisiana's same-sex marriage ban on Thursday (July 2) following the U.S. Supreme court ruling recognizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
District Judge Martin Feldman had initially upheld the state same-sex marriage ban in 2014, but the Supreme Court's decision last week has forced him to reverse that decision.
Gov. Bobby Jindal has been refusing to let Louisiana state government accommodate same-sex marriage until the district court ruling came out. Feldman's decision is expected force state agencies to accommodate same-sex couples on issues like driver's license names changes, joint tax filings and adoption paperwork.
