Blow our minds by imparting a piece of erstwhile, esoteric, miscellaneous knowledge to us that most of us likely don't already know.

Thread so named because of this fictive 80s/ 90s ABC television science whiz:

I'll kick it off with this quasi petty factoid.

If you are rolling your own filtered (<---- key word, that) cigarette, only have one paper left and can't get the annoyingly uncooperative paper to fit the end of your cigarette roller, then plug in, flip on and point a hair dryer at the inside of the paper for about 30 seconds.

It should now slide right onto the roller with no problems.

Hand lotions make outstanding face-shaving creams, if you unfortunately ever hafta improvise.

So does ordinary hand soap or shampoo. I shave in the shower and have not bought shaving cream in nearly 20 years.

If you need some potable water and all you have is dirty water, then grab some unscented bleach and release no more than eight drops of it into a gallon of the water, and shake well.

After waiting about 30 minutes, drink up. All good.

Give a white vinegar douche once every three months to your coffee maker, dishwasher and washing machine to keep them clean and running smoothly.

Also use undiluted white vinegar to clean shower doors and bathroom fixtures inexpensively.

Use 2 liters of cola overnight in your toilet bowl. Brush and flush in the morning for a dog safe clean.

Instead of running it through the window, I suggest permanent holes in the side of the house, for a less ghetto-fide effect.

To remove paint from old hardware first toss into a pot of boiling water, then remove (with tongs...dummy:D) and place in a pot of icy water. The paint will shatter and fall off. No toxic paint removers!

Substitute sawdust and leaves instead of paper for a cleaner burning flame.

All flame using this method is extremely toxic and can result in death if not properly implemented.

Need a safe, alternative, old-school way to fight a sore throat?

Fill a coffee cup with water, sprinkle no more than a tablespoon of (preferably iodized) salt in it, stir well, and then microwave the cup for between 30 seconds to a minute.

Now gargle some of the water for about 30-45 seconds.

Gargle a couple more times, and see the difference it makes in how your sore throat feels.

use old newspapers to clean windows. They leave a better lint free streak free window and are cheaper of course and are a "green" alternative besides.

out of Hepa filters. I take my vaccuum cleaner's hepa filter outside, tap it vigourously until all solids are dislodged. Then I soak it in a pail of warm soapy water for 30 min+/- and rinse it well with the garden hose. I let mine air dry for at least 24 hrs. It has to be completely dry. Even "unwashable" hepa filters can be cleaned. Find a dyi site on the internet with directions that suit your model.

What the heck is a "hepa filter"?

I could Google it, of course, but I prefer to give you the satisfaction of telling us what it is.
