The title of the NY Times article is not supported by the contents. Excerpts from the article:
"JERUSALEM — Ten women, including two American rabbis, were detained by the Israeli police on Monday for praying at the Western Wall wearing prayer shawls that are traditionally used by men, in the latest escalation of a conflict over one of Judaism’s holiest sites."

"Micky Rosenfeld, a spokesman for the Israeli police, said the women were not charged with criminal offenses, but were barred from returning to the wall for 15 days. He said the women had been detained “as a result of them wearing the garments that they’re not allowed to wear specifically at that site.”*

"Mr. Rosenfeld, the police spokesman, noted that the court decision provides a separate area, known as Robinson’s Arch, for women to pray in any manner they like, and said that as long as the group continued to defy the law by wearing the garments in the prohibited area, its members would be detained, questioned and released. “The High Court’s decision is what it is,” he said. “That has to be respected.”

I know, pour acid onto his decrepit face. we can't though. he did it because he's a very sick person.

Nazareth resident, 50, arrested for pouring acid over girl's face because she refused to marry member of his family. Haifa hospital fighting to save her eyesight

Man arrested for pouring acid on 16-year-old's face - Israel News, Ynetnews

Perhaps his punishment should be to have acid poured on his face, so he knows the pain this child experienced.

perhaps he should be tried and someone should figure out why he did it. he could be crazy, or suffering from early onset alzheimers or any number of things. not likely, but i would hate to pour acid on the face of a person who has suffered from untreated paranoid schiophreni for years.

what of he was at home watching the soccer game, as he claims?

neither one of you (lipush thanked) impressed me as the kind of people who believed in the death penalty, but i have been wrong about people before.

would either one of you be able to pour the acid in his face?

i hope the young woman recovers completely.

I believed that if his suffered a mantal condition, he should have been watched by relatives or people who new him. From what we were told, he waited for her to be home, knocked on the window and when she opened it he poured the liquid right in her face. It doesn't sound like someone who didn't know what he was doing, to me.

I would not have supported death penalty, but if this man knew what he was doing and meant it, I would not have at all objected of him have the same kind of torment. Doing something like that, especially to a minor, is unforgivable in my book.

Poor kid, though, I hope she doesn't lose her eyesight

i don't know.

in my book the justice of a face for a face is the same as an eye ffor an eye and a tooth for a tooth and...a life for a life.

you are getting ahead of yourself with the "if this man knew what he was doing..." you should begin with "if this man did it..."

i also posted a link to bethany storro.

I doubt he had a mental condition, he's just made a stupid decision.

in the first half of the 20th century, there were a lot of young men hanging from trees south of the mason dixon who didn't have mental conditions either. their crime was being black, although that isn't what they were charged with.

death row prisoners in the USA are being released, sometimes after being incarderated for twenty years, because new evidence is being found that exonerates them.

this man says he was watching a soccer game.

is israel a completely lawless society?

but excuse me. my old habits die hard.

by all means, let's throw acid in his face. if we are wrong and he didn't do it, well, i am sure we can straighten that out later.

"could be crazy --- doubt he has a mental problem...just a stupid decision"

acid burns the flesh off people's --in this case-- faces, you think he didn't know that ?

he is both sinister AND disturbed. normal people don't toss acid in someone's face. he tossed it to inflict as much pain as possible. he knew exactly what he was doing.

it's not normal.

"...he's just made a stupid decision."

first of all, i said more thaan that...i named more options...

but let me try to help out here...

In the South African Constitution, section 35(3)(h) of the Bill of Rights states: "Every accused person has a right to a fair trial, which includes the right to be presumed innocent, to remain silent, and not to testify during the proceedings."
and, even in iran...

In Iran, Article 37 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran states: "Innocence is to be presumed, and no one is to be held guilty of a charge unless his or her guilt has been established by a competent court".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_innocence

and in the USA we have the 5th and 6th amendment to the constitution and a lot of case law.

now, i know israel doesn't have a constitution, but does the concept of presumed innocence completely escape them.

my god, i am living in an america where people don't believe in their own constitution, it seems.

has anyone on rhese board ever been imprisoned or interned without crime or trial. i have. i was visiting a friend and i had the wrong sounding name.fortunately, i was an american so i got out in a month.

New York Times contradicted itself in the Article. They were detained, not formally charged. Fail.

Israels detentions can go on for years. And they may never use the word arrest! Of course, how long the detentions last most certainly are affected by whether one is Jew or Gentile!

I was under the impression that a detention without a charge does not
constitute an "arrest" in the USA ------but that in some cases things that
seem non criminal and are penalized by a fine ARE called "arrests"

My uneducated (never having attended law school) guess is that the ladies
in question were not charged with a crime---just escorted away and held for
awhile. This kind of thing goes on lots in the USA ----people who play chess
in the park and BET on the game can be "arrested" for gambling.
The comment as to "WHETHER OR NOT ONE IS A JEW OR A GENTILE"
is a bitter comment by a jihadist slut who is disappointed that the rate of
jihadist infant throat slitting has gone down and is desperate to equate an
act something more like disorderly conduct which I believe in my state is
called NOT A CRIME BUT A "violation" as being as serious as slitting
the throat of an infant. Let us keep in mind the background and affiliations
which SHE has claimed. In islamic law----a muslim cannot be considered
guilty of a capital crime if he kills a jew. A jew can be considered guilty
of a capital crime if he walks up the steps of a mosque. The laws derive
from the JUSTINIAN CODE (of constantine) and were recapitulated
in the Nuremburg laws CULTURAL NORMS ---the normative ways
of thinking instilled in children over DOZENS OF GENERATIONS remains
stable ---------for more insight --read CHILDHOOD AND SOCIETY erikson.

You lie, unlawful administrative detentions of Palestinians go on for years. There simply is no truth in you or your post!

What about Shalit? I'll bet he thought he was administratively held. .
