The Congressional Research Service reports that the government spent $3.7 million in 2012 on former presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.

That includes presidential pensions, salaries and benefits for staff members, travel and office expenses.

The most recent former president, George W. Bush, was the most expensive last year at $1.3 million.

Clinton cost just under $1 million in 2012. For George H.W. Bush, the expenses were $840,000 and for Carter around $500,000.

Dude, the man has a presidential library to build. He needs staff to handle all the paperwork and organization that goes along with such a project.
