FactCheck.org: Obama's Lame Claim About McCain's Money

Obama announced he would become the first presidential candidate since 1972 to rely totally on private donations for his general election campaign, opting out of the system of public financing and spending limits that was put in place after the Watergate scandal.

One reason, he said, is that "John McCain’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are fueled by contributions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs."

We find that to be a large exaggeration and a lame excuse. In fact, donations from PACs and lobbyists make up less than 1.7 percent of McCain's total receipts, and they account for only about 1.1 percent of the RNC's receipts.

Lmao...so it's ok now for him to get money from lobbyist and Pacs, afterall Mccain gets 1.7% of his money from them.....:cuckoo:

Both candidates and both parties get money from PACs and corporations, folks.

Let stop kidding ourselves, shall we?

He does?

I have not heard him say that.

I have heard his supporters say that the percentage of his campiagn coming from small contributions is larger than McCains.

Yet He has claimed McCain gets his money from those sources, if his contributions are higher than 1.7 percent guess what? He is lying. Or maybe you prefer misleading?

Yes but Obama claims he does NOT. In other words he openly lies.

It seems Obama's claim is unfounded, but to say he openly lies without saying McCain does the same thing is a bit deceiving. If you look around the site where this info came from you'll find the scorecard of lies doesn't paint a rosy picture of McCain either. All politicians lie.

I'm sorry..I don't understand your point.

First of all, depending on reported PAC contributions is very misleading.

Money coming from donations of thousands of executives, all haling from the same corporation, is how the corporate contrubution game is played now.

O claims that the percentage of honest to god unaffiliated citizens who are NOT "encouraged" by their employers to donate the maximum to a single candidate, is the claim that I know he has made.

Given how much of his funding has come from internet appeals, I suspect that he'd probably being truthful about that.

But, remember that I stated previously that BOTH candidates are supping form the same well of big money campaign contributions?

I suspect McCain gets a higher percentage of that money overall, than O does, but I hardly think it irrelevant that BOTH of them pander to BIG MONEY, too.

Lies?

These guys can talk all night long, never tell a lie, and mislead people by speaking in misleading half-truths.

Professional POLS of every stripe are ALL damned good at that game.

If you just keep looking for OUTRIGHT lies, from either candidate, then you are going to be disappointed.

Truly effective liars seldom lie outright, sport.

The standard way for politicans and parties to mislead the public is to speak partial truths, part of the story, such that the ignorant think they understand what's going on, but really don't.

I've heard Hillary and Mccain spin or just make up stuf about obama a lot more than obama does it to them.

The one time I can think of is when Mccain said 100 yr war. Ok, we exxagerated that one, but you gotta fight fire with fire.

I guess since Mccain is accepting public financing in the general election, Obama would do the same correct? He's a hypocrite and a liar...
He said back in the primaries he would accept public financing. He backed out of public financing stating that Mccain's campaign is fueled by Pacs and lobbyist which is a lie considering only 1.7% comes from Pacs and lobbysist. He's a hypocrite because he pretends to be a new type of candidate that won't accept money from lobbyist and special interest. But anyone who pays attention knows he.....
