The Middle East crisis that peaked one year ago Wednesday when the Islamic State captured Mosul may result in the breakup of Iraq and an indefinite continuation of a war in Syria that’s already out of control, analysts say.
Yet still worse things could happen.
“The conditions are very much like 1914,” says Michael Stephens of the Royal United Service Institute in London. “All it will take is one little spark, and Iran and Saudi Arabia will go at each other, believing they are fighting a defensive war.”

Somehow I can't see why this would be a bad thing for the rest of the world's non-muslims who are being killed and enslaved all over the place.

That's not the worst case. Worst case is some fool nukes Israel. That would be bad. In case you're "fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing" any nuclear device detonating on Israeli soil (or US for that matter) would result in instant economic collapse around the world. Before media outlets let us know that that's happened, nuclear powers like the US, Russia, UK, India, and Pakistan will adjust their respective DEFCONs to 3, maybe 2. As news hits and the world stops spinning, every country on the planet will go freaking nuts. People will panic, go indiscriminately insane, likely suspect classes of people will be murdered int he streets, more extremist Jews and Christians will torch mosques, Muslims will retaliate, and blood will flow down streets like a river.
In the second minute...Things will get worse. :/
