For the Trump supporters. Learn why we need NATO and stop listening to Trump.

We don't need NATO and, more importantly, they don't need us. Europe's population and combined GDP dwarfs Russia's. Besides, we don't have to be in a formal alliance to help Europe, as we did in two world wars. Additionally, Germany is Russia's biggest customer. The Russians aren't going to invade Germany. Even the Germans know that the Russians aren't going to attack them as evidenced by their paltry defense spending.

NATO is a cold-war relic and, frankly, a paper tiger. It's time to get out.

I couldn't agree more.

They need us a lot more than we need them because we don't need them.

We pay for the bulk of everything in NATO and listen to them bitch when told they are going to have to start paying their way.

There are advantages to NATO though, one being you maintain influence (can keep an eye on?) with all parties. Many of these global socialists are not trustworthy. One day they smile to your face, the next day, they might side with Russia and try and attack your interests. Also, there is something to be said about a broad coalition of states, it can be a deterrent I'm sure.

Having U.S involvement is global affairs is vital to maintain the peace. I know some of you are isolationists, or, maybe better stated, "tired of doing the heavy lifting for others". I understand this, I really do and in principle I agree. However, the world needs a global police nation, a clear dominant military force for good. That nation has to be most supportive of individual liberty and capitalism. In fact the EU and others should be more like the U.S, this only happens with greater influence.

I don't have any skin in the game, so it's easier for me to state this. There are other benefits as well though, such as weapon sales from U.S defense contractors to foreign countries (if they are paying their 2%) and even broader goodwill as a nation for others to look at as the "good guys", rather than the Communist dictators gaining traction. I've often chastised Canada for not paying it's 2%, I think it's an insult to America.

It's sad that humans are slow in their evolution, but until China becomes enlightened, I'd prefer a dominant America leading the West and the world. NATO at least fulfills the function of influence across the pond via a reliance on the U.S. Though, I say again and again, they must pay their fair share. The EU can't be that naive to threats, that might not be here today, but might exist tomorrow Just look at the Southern China Sea expansion, threats to Taiwan and the activities in Ukraine a few years ago.

Its not NATO that I object to, its the US taxpayers spending $24b a year to keep US forces there protecting the EU from Russia who the EU buys gas from funding the Russian military?! Either we should vacate the EU, or the EU should pay for the US forces.

We are not there to protect them from Russia, we are there to exert our influence on the region.

All that lying their butts off has caused the Democrats to seek another leader than their own country's leaders to rule them. That's so damn sick it's like not one of them got the truth about the founders of THIS COUNTRY.

Foreign affairs, incidently is the job of the Executive Branch, not the Congress who make laws for this country.

I guess they can collude with anybody in the world, but they're going to hold President Trump's feet to the fire when he doesn't collude with the Russians.

In his favor, the foreign guy speaking seems to be a nice person.

I'd rather have the $24b than try to influence the EU. Good luck with that. Have any examples where our influence worked, like the Iran treaty? Buying Russian gas? Dealing with China?
