Orthodox rabbi: Only one million Jews killed in Holocaust

A well-known Orthodox rabbi and lecturer based in the US posted a video claiming that only one million Jews died in the Holocaust.
The other 5 million people included in the numbers of Jews killed by the Nazis were intermarried and not Jewish, he said.

I'm unsure what to make of this.
Is he saying the other 5 million were less important because they weren't real Jews?

since Poland was full of Jews really not that many when you think about it , how many Poles died in ww2, Germans, Russians, Japanese, Americans . Between 65-85 million died in WW2, so in that respect , not many Jews.
