New York Times: Lawns Are Symbols of Racism, Bad for Global Warming

Botti says lawns are part of the “colonizing of America,” which transformed the landscape from “pristine wilderness” to “identical rows of manicured nature.”

“These lawns come on the backs of slaves,” he continues, zooming in on a painting of George Washington in a field to highlight men cutting the grass with scythes. “It’s grueling, endless work.”

“By the 1870s we also see American culture slowly start to embrace lawns for the privileged masses,” he states....

Jenkins’ book concludes that lawns in America are status symbols, and their popularity grew due to promotion by the garden and golf industries and the federal government’s United States Department of Agriculture.

She also said that lawns “are a symbol of man’s control of, or superiority, over his environment.”

I was hearing this when I went to college back in the late '70s. I had a Socialist prof who used to go on these long-winded rants about lawns are a symbol of white colonial oppression or some such thing.

As long as he was ranting he wasn't handing out assignments so we let him rant.

Must conquer lawn!

This is the sort of white guilt driven leftist naval gazing the NYT loves. I don't really think anyone else pays it any attention.
Give them time and they will find racism in everything.

Back in the 70s when I was studying the Russian Language, also it was found out that over in the Soviet Union you didnt have but 1 apartment with 1 bedroom unless you had a kid, 1 tv, 1 car, 1 radio, and no lawn. Over in the Soviet Union, you got what the government doled out to you, and the government could take it away just as easy. Oh yeah, they had 1 tv station and news agency that all it did was tell how great the USSR was. This is what the democrats are pushing towards without even realizing it. Such ignorant people who vote Democrat.

In Canada they take away your home also. They've been trying to do it to my wife and I for 10 years. At great cost to our economy as it were as I decided I'd blow the whistle on a few dozens undercovers working in corporations.

In our Charter of Rights, there is no protection of private property. It is all, in theory (and practice when needed) owned by the Queen of England. In Canada, private property rights are not protected. Literally not protected (Canada voluntarily, when they want to; abide by International property laws) You are officially leasing the property from the Crown or Queen.

When I got back from Saudi Arabia, I moved to a little town called Cheverly Maryland. It was the last bastion of hope for Landover Maryland which was predominantly black, except for our neighborhood. But over a period of 16 years, more and more white people left, and more Hispanics moved in, and pretty soon, the houses and yards started looking like your picture, some even worse.
My neighbor worked on his cars, which was against city ordinance codes, and one day spilled his radiator fluid into my yard. Governor Martin O'Malley was in charge and declared Md a sanctuary state, so when I called the police about this hazardous spill, they said they couldn't do anything. When I called the chief of police I told him if he didnt send someone down here, I was going to call the EPA and have them come out and investigate the spill which would make the locals look bad. Again, this is what liberals want for our country, turn it into a slum, just like where they live.

Which is why in the US, I will never bow to a royal and tell those prisses that they arent wanted here. They bleed red just like the rest of US, they shouldn't be treated any different.

The NYT is trying to remind everyone that the Democratic Party believes that heartland Americans, small town people and suburbanites are inferior people.

I’m gonna point this out next time my wife hounds me about cutting the grass.

Cheverly is mostly shot now. I live in one of the last mostly-white bastions in PG County. And they’re all democrat hypocrites who preach diversity.
Many of the highspanic dominated neighborhoods in PG County have front lawns paved to accommodate the six, seven and eight vehicles per dwelling.
Pretty soon all of the blacks will have migrated to Chuck County as they do when highspanics move in. No one reports on black flight.

Is USA becoming a Banana Republic?

where important prisoners like Epstein are killed... and lawns are considered racists? among other things?

where is the Law? where are the Patriots? WHERE

I want to know at this stage.

I think I am quickly reaching the point where enough is enough

Can you hear me? Patriots?

That's Mexican lawn art

I had people accuse my lawn of being racist just because I had a lawn sign that read "no spooks allowed". Why is it suddenly racist to not want ghosts trampling all over your grass? :dunno:
