As if we didn't need any more proof our government is using its resources to spy on us, a report has now surfaced that indicates that the NSA broke privacy rules thousands of times per year, even ignoring court orders preventing them from doing so.

(Reuters) - The National Security Agency has broken privacy rules or overstepped its legal authority thousands of times each year since 2008, the Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing an internal audit and other top-secret documents.

Most of the infractions involved unauthorized surveillance of Americans or foreign intelligence targets in the United States, both of which are restricted by law and executive order, the paper said.

They ranged from significant violations of law to typographical errors that resulted in unintended interception of U.S. emails and telephone calls, it said.

It was a clerical error. For this administration, it usually is a clerical error, unless they outright lie, take the 5th, and/or deem it phony.

Yep. The totalitarian torch that was passed to Obama still burns brightly.

A lesson to those who did not think ahead when they approved/rubberstamped/overlooked all this abuse when it was their guy doing it.

The NSA, along with the U.N. IS the Government!

And most Americans think if they can just get a majority Democrat or Republican government then everything will get better!

Well I have been told by conservatives for years that if you have nothing to hide you should have no problem being checked out. Drug tests, background checks, credit checks, etc.

A true conservative would never say that!

Conservatives advocate it all to include sporting events of children in public schools.

Obama stated emphatically that NO spying on Americans was happening, because there were checks and fail safes in place to prevent it.

This makes him either incompetent (not knowing what the NSA was doing). Or this makes him a bald faced liar. Either way he's a liability and a terrible president.

Don't know where you stood when Bush instituted this idiocy, but I objected then to the whole idea, and was called a terrorist sympathizer and worse by the 'Conservatives'. Now the whole thing has come to fruitation, it is going to be very hard to put the toothpaste back into the tube. And, were we to actually get someone like you Teabaggers wish for, they would do even worse.

No, it makes him a President that is building on what the prior President set up. And both are very wrong.

No, this president was openly hostile to everything Bush did regarding the WOT and yet this president has used what Bush did and expanded it! That makes him a disingenuous asshole at best and a lying dangerous tyrant at worst.

Bush pushed passage of the PA, it is true. He was faced with the enormity of trying to streamline intelligence gathering, sharing and disseminating information in the aftermath of 9/11. It was a a major misstep- He should have rounded up and deported foreign nationals from terrorist supporting nations instead- of course every nanny liberal would have been screaming their empty heads off.

I was vocally against the PA as I stated then, because it would lay the ground work to be abused and harm American liberty....and Obama has proven my fears to be true!

Obama has done nothing but add congressional and judicial oversight, not to mention making rendition rare and torture unknown. It's gotten much better and less secret. The Pub propaganda Machine would run with nothing, and the LSM only cares about ratings. Remain calm.

Senator Obama Promises Strong Opposition to FISA's Retroactive Immunity for Telecommunications Companies
Oct 24

As PolitiFact reports: "Obama spokesman Bill Burton issued this unequivocal statement to the liberal blog TPM Election Central: 'To be clear: Barack will support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies.'" Less than a year later, Senator Obama votes in favor of retroactive immunity in a June 2008 vote for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Amendments Act of 2008.

I was going to say, didn't he just go out and say no rules at all, none, zero... were broken? And that Snowden was wrong to do what he did.
