'Big Brother is talking to you': New emergency alert system will give Obama the power to flip a switch and take over the airwaves | Mail Online

'Big Brother is talking to you,' warned a senior Republican congressional staffer. 'This is just begging to be abused'

Some Republicans fear a system that would give the White House a way to address the entire country at will could be abused.
'Oh, great,' a Republican Capitol Hill staffer told MailOnline on Tuesday. 'Big Brother is talking to you.'
'Call me crazy, but I have a feeling we're going to see the definition of an "emergency" get looser and looser – especially as we get closer to an election.'

The FCC also has a separate public alert system for smartphones in the works. It was first tested in 2013 on a statewide basis.

Looks like obama may have some late fees due on a copy of 1984 at the DC Public Library.

And by 'some republicans', you mean that one anonymous 'staffer'?

And of course, you're aware this is an FCC proposal, right? They haven't implemented anything. And they're talking of a 6 month to 3 year implementation schedule AFTER the passage of such a proposal.

So in all likelihood, this wouldn't even be in effect until after Obama had left office.

And that makes it okay for some reason?

And he has a pen and a phone and he know's how to use them....

Whenever Valerie or Michele tells him to LOL

It doesn't matter who is in office when it's implemented. History demonstrates, like in Red China, North Korea and other Big Government shitholes, that when this power is given to the Government, it's hastily abused for propaganda purposes.

It sure as hell does matter when you're claiming 'Obama now has a kill switch for the media'.

And he doesn't.

The US government already has the power to put on TV whatever it wants in terms of the Emergency Broadcast system. Where then is the abuse you insist is so inevitable?

You're just insinuating another conspiracy on absolute shyte information that you never bothered to fact check. The 'kill switch' you talk about doesn't exist. The FCC is simply submitting a proposal for public review on creating a national public broadcast system rather than have it filter down through numerous layers of bureaucracy instead.

Exactly as the GAO suggested years ago.

Ok, so Red China, North Korea and other Big Gov totalitarian regimes have no conquered the Free Press in their respective nations, you're right, that's just another phony fact.

The fact that the United States Government has now legally assumed this power is just another phony scandal.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system in the United States put into place on January 1, 1997, when it superseded the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), which in turn superseded the CONELRAD System. The official EAS is designed to enable the President of the United States to speak to the United States within 10 minutes. In addition to this requirement, EAS is also designed to alert the public of local weather emergencies such as tornadoes and flash floods. A national EAS test was conducted on November 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, but the nationwide federal EAS has never been activated (source: Wikipedia).

In today's society, social critics analyze just how the confluence of cultures in areas such as New Orleans, Louisiana create communication hybridization (i.e., pidgins, etc.), since such confluence speaks to our modern age of culture-contact capitalism (i.e., Chinatown, San Francisco).

Communications are very symbolic today, and Obama's governance over the EAS reveals the same sort of new age intellectual investments that make 'territory adaptation' devices (i.e., sonar-enhanced submarines) philosophically profitable and judicious!

By the way, American cities are considering providing police departments with energy-efficient electric cars.

It's no wonder that the fictional comic book super-hero Electro (a man who can manipulate electrical energy) is getting so much media play. Electro was recently featured in the Hollywood (USA) blockbuster "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014).

Given Obama's bias to rule by Phone and Pen, I'm not confident he feels that his behavior is constrained by any rule of law.

Has nothing to do with President Obama but of course, that won't stop the lies.

Carry on, RW dupes.

It's more a matter of this sort of thing being ignored, if an R was in office, and charges of unpatriotic behavior or utter stupidity, if a D brought it up. Consequently, all this sort of post does is emphasize what hypocrites the wingnuts are. :eusa_boohoo:

Jump in and bitch boys, that's your right, but the last time I checked we actually were one country, even if we sure as hell don't act like it...

Let me guess, there won't be any "opt-out" that will allow to continue using your phone/tv/computer in a regular manner --- for our own safety!

Don't worry. You will still be able to view your favorite RedTube videos.
