Yes, at it's heart the electoral college is a disenfranchisement tactic left over from a time when slave states wanted their slaves to count towards the presidency without having a vote. I did a quick calculation and I came up to about 55 million people cast votes in states for a candidate that had zero chance to win that state (I used the winner taking more than 60% of the vote as my cutoff.)

In the state i live in, 2.1 million people vote for Trump and 209,000 voted for Johnson. Both voters had the same impact on the election, both groups of voters accounted for the exact same number of electrical votes...zero

Read your own link Drama Llama. Nothing in it says anything about "ditching the Electoral College". It's actually entirely within the guidelines of the Constitution. Unless of course you can show the class where the COTUS dictates how the states "must" choose electors.

Actually it is. Everybody in a locked-red or locked-blue state has effectively no vote at all. You can vote along with the state, you can vote against the state, you can vote for some third party, or you can say "fuck it", stay home and bake a cake. ALL FOUR return exactly the same result with the exception that in the fourth scenario you actually get some cake. Other than that you're entirely irrelevant.
Not only that but in the last election we had 13 NON-locked states:

And yet every one of these states went to Congress and voted unanimously for the one who got closest to 50%, tossing more than half of each state's votes directly into the garbage disposal.
