I would bet money that it has earned more in royalties to date for its writer than for the writer of any Elvis song. It's played every year by countless stations.

It's like 'The Christmas Song' (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire). Written by Mel Tormé, the Nat King Cole version generates millions in royalties for son James Tormé and the Tormé estate. One site I just checked, from 2018, says that it's made $44 million in royalties.

It's Top 3 of one hit wonders for me. I hear that David Alan Coe and Kenny Chesney both did versions but I've never heard them. If there was an easier way to post music here than YouTube I would upload my version.
