Republicans in the 1800 were liberals and yet I don't think that there is anyone today who would call the Republican Party liberal. Southerners were almost uniformly racist, Republicans and Democrats. The problem is what you're talking about happened over 100 years ago. Things have changed markedly from the late 1800's and what the parties stood for in those days is totally irrelevant today. Trying to claim otherwise shows the depths of Republican desperation.

The Democrats came to their senses and embraced racial diversity, the Republican Party did not.
