The gruesome find near Venezuela’s border with Colombia comes during an operation to rid the area of violent paramilitaries.

Venezuelan security forces discovered a dismembered and buried body in the town of Llano de Jorge in Tachira state, the border region with Colombia and the center of controversy between the two countries.

The body, which was discovered late Friday night, is believed to have been in the spot for around two months.

It was found in a zone known to be controlled by paramilitaries, and where Italian Salvatore Marcuso operated, who is wanted for a string of crimes related to the right-wing paramilitary group Self Defense Units of Colombia (AUC).
