This is standard in Canada. Drug dealer gets off because these muppets steal something from his storage unit and are caught on video. Then like a good Canadians, they lie about it in court.

You can be sure the "investigation" will end in nothing. I'm guessing these guys will be candidates for Chief of Peel Region police one day.

If undercovers aren't stealing or abusing authority, they are entering American corporations and undermining their right to self determination.

No wonder our allies don't trust us...

Probe launched after Peel officers found to have stolen scarface sculpture while carrying out search warrant

The Peel Regional Police service has launched an internal investigation after an Ontario Superior Court concluded that Peel officers stole a statue while executing a search warrant during a 2014 investigation and then lied about it in court.

As a result, a suite of drug-related charges against 35-year-old Lowell Somerville have been stayed.

"It is only by permanently stopping these proceedings through a stay that the court can effectively distance the justice system from this gross and continuing misconduct," wrote Justice Jennifer Woollcombe in a judgement released on Wednesday.

Woollcombe determined that one of the four officers who had carried out a search on a storage locker being rented by Somerville, Officer Richard Rerrie, had stolen a large statue depicting Tony Montana, the lead character in the film Scarface.

Rerrie, alongside officers Damian Savino, Mihai Muresan and Emanuel Pinheiro, then proceeded to lie about what had happened "with the intention of deceiving the court about what they'd done," she wrote, describing their behaviour as "not only profoundly disappointing, but shocking."
