The City of Brotherly Love --- Philadelphia --- is where the Declaration of Independence was signed, Joe Paterno's Penn State Nittany Lions established a society-rivalry with Lou Holtz' iconic Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where tourists can grab a nationally-celebrated cheesesteak, and where people can find the iconic Rocky steps/statue.

Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys (Bruce Willis) and Jonathan Demme's Philadelphia (Tom Hanks) are set in Philadelphia.

The advent of television has seen the national broadcasting of college football games, giving public audiences glimpses of student-culture (i.e., students cheering for their celebrated teams!). This is a sign of the age of commerce, media, and networking, and it brings us 'closer' to the student-mystique of Penn State-Notre Dame games televised on NBC.

When the aspiring underdog Philadelphia Eagles (NFL) defeated the seemingly-invincible New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52 [2018], people around the country tuned into the Eagles' victory parade in the City of Brotherly Love(!). U.S. President Donald Trump offered a simple congratulatory tweet (Twitter).

You can be sure that the Eagles' victory affected marketing/merchandising for the city of Philadelphia!

Now that the Villanova Wildcats are in the Final Four, Americans are wondering if Philadelphia is potentially a 'populism-media city' for our commercialism-consciousness 'TrumpUSA.'

Should TrumpUSA be considered a 'lighthouse' for commerce and culture?

The Liberty Bell and the Declaration of Independence are on display for tourists in Philadelphia.

The Eagle's Super Bowl victory-parade, culminating on the iconic/symbolic Rocky-steps was a great moment for Philadelphia media (and manga!).

ph3.jpg

Americans love photos of youngsters in proud designs and gear cheering on their favorite city-teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers. If President Trump encourages the right kind of student-athlete 'culture' by addressing corruption in collegiate and professional sports, achievements/trophies such as the Eagles' Super Bowl victory can symbolize the American Dream.

ph4.jpg

Al Gore reminded us to temper our capitalism-fervor and media-use with considerations about Earth's carrying-capacity, the gluttony/avarice of cholesterol-culture inherent in modern consumerism, and the problems of eco-pollution leading to global warming. Access to sports on TV should remind Americans of the responsibility to not take luxuries for granted --- lest we incur the 'fanatical ire' of anti-capitalism terrorism (i.e., ISIS).

ph6.jpg

President Trump is only the second celebrity-president (after Ronald Reagan!), and George Washington was the first military-man president (Ulysses S. Grant was another one!). Will Donald Trump be remembered as a 'commerce-token' or a true capitalism-media diplomat? How will all this media attention affect society attitudes towards the First Lady (Melania Trump)? Philadelphia is a proudly pluralistic city where we find portraits of the proud pioneering American politicians who signed the iconic Declaration of Independence. Does President Trump care about the needs/concerns of the modern sports-fan (e.g., steroids corruption)? Media has changed the way we look at 'citizenry passion/involvement.'

ph7.jpg

The Villanova Wildcats (a Philadelphia college sports team!) shocked the nation when they upset John Thompson and Patrick Ewing's mighty Georgetown Hoyas in the 1985 NCAA Championship. The Wildcats won the NCAA crown again in 2016 and are now (once again!) in the Final Four (alongside Kansas, Michigan, and Loyola of Chicago). If the Wildcats win another championship this year, they'll sit alongside the fantastic Philadelphia Eagles (NFL), which will make for outstanding Philadelphia-area marketing. Does President Trump feel 'in-touch' with the people amidst all this energy/excitement?

ph9.jpg

Philadelphia offers great architecture and well-respected social leaders and canonical society figures and therefore films have been set in this historically symbolic American city. If TrumpUSA is media-reflective, then President Trump must represent the enthusiasm of the American people and arguably the energized people of the City of Brotherly Love!

ph10.jpg

We want to forget about the scars of 9/11 and move beyond the terrible 'shadow' of post-modern geopolitical turbulence (i.e., terrorism). That will take the work of social leaders/politicians in establishing the right kinds of 'capitalism-rhetoric' so we don't fight evil with evil. President Trump may have to be some 'form' of a George Washington or JFK!

ph5.jpg

The great political philosopher Thomas Hobbes wrote in his seminal treatise Leviathan that the government (and governance!) is like a 'creature' and it is severed into 'living pieces' by the immutable yearnings for endless revolution. This sort of 'political angst' reflects our modern age of media-gauged hysteria (e.g., Enron). How will President Trump deal with the needs of a capitalism-oriented hunger (widely-publicized in the media/press)?

ph8.jpg

Come Final Four Saturday, when the Villanova Wildcats play in front of mass Philadelphia audiences/fan-groups watching in the stadium or on TV, Americans will meditate on what it means to be a 'modern media musketeer.' Martha Washington was a spiritual force, and Jackie Kennedy was a customs-muse, so will Melania Trump be a commerce/media heroine?

ph11.jpg

I was born in India to Asian parents, but we moved to Philadelphia in 1983 where I lived for four years(!). I was admitted into the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in 1996 but opted to go to Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire) instead. Nevertheless, Philadelphia still holds a strong place in my heart, and I continue to cheer for Philly sports-teams (e.g., Nittany Lions football, 76ers basketball, UPenn soccer). I remember that during my college years, I rode into the Philadelphia 30th Street Train-Station and saw the giant statue of the angel of Philadelphia at the station and wondered if commerce/traffic promoted American patriotism. Will 'TrumpUSA' be a 'lighthouse' for consumerism-idealism?

Mock-Dialogue between me and President Trump(!):

ABISHAI: Did you enjoy Super Bowl 52?
TRUMP: Yes, I was surprised the Eagles won with their backup-QB!
ABISHAI: Yes! Nick Foles surprised everyone...the team was well-coached.
TRUMP: The victory-parade was outstanding.
ABISHAI: Many watched it on TV; are you a fan of sports-broadcasting?
TRUMP: I like how sports-fanfare contributes to commerce and patriotism.
ABISHAI: That's excellent; I suppose you're a fan of ESPN (sports-network).
TRUMP: Oh, yes, ESPN is very very popular now...
ABISHAI: Are you a fan of Captain America (Marvel Comics)?
TRUMP: I know there are multiple Captain America films in Hollywood.
ABISHAI: Do you think student-athletes care about consumerism-ethics?
TRUMP: I believe politicians are obligated to guide consumers in this media age.
ABISHAI: What is your favorite broadcasted Philadelphia sports achievement?
TRUMP: I'm pretty proud of the aspiring Eagles 'dismounting' the Patriots.
ABISHAI: Can Philadelphia be a 'commerce-hub' (like Seattle or Miami)?
TRUMP: I think consumers can pump energy into 'challenging urban areas.'
ABISHAI: God bless America (may anti-capitalism terrorism cease)!
