This is a modernism-vignette (my final one!) inspired by the film The Lawnmower Man.

Cheers,

After the fall of the Roman Empire, mankind was reorganizing itself and meditating on the legacy of Christ. Western Civilization focused its attention on the Industrial Revolution and the inception of ideas regarding real globalization (mostly commerce-gauged). When humanity sunk into the abyss of World War II, the real fear was a complete loss of social sanity in the face of maddening war. When Nazi Germany fell, humanity once again sighed in relief and focused its energies (once again) towards commerce and of course computers. Gen-X was born and the new 'crusader' was the 'media-diplomat' (i.e., Steve Jobs, Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, etc.). There was a new struggle --- the struggle for pluralism profitability (e.g., Facebook), and it felt like everyone was suddenly a 'soldier' (again).

In other words, the 'era' after the life of Christ and the fall of Rome was marked by high pedestrian philosophy and traffic related to commerce and media and industry. Gen-X was considered the 'priestly' generation and rightfully so arguably! Media criticism pinned Gen-Xers to the proverbial 'wall,' making modernism media metaphysics feel like Machiavellian meal-tickets. This was the true 'dark water' of the 'New Civilization.' Comic books exploded in popularity, and American audiences were interested in outlandish 'avatars' (i.e., Iron Man, Video-Man, Scarecrow, Catwoman, etc.) doing incredible things. Media optimists suggested that Gen-X satisfactorily donned the mantle of 'civilization heirs' and properly hoisted the Media Age as a time of great commercial creativity (e.g., Amazon.com). Now, the 'dark water' was breeding a new fear --- piracy.

Who would rise to the challenge of this new 'dark water' fear of piracy but advocates and representatives of the post-Gen-X generation, known simply as 'Generation-Next' (or Gen-Next). The diplomats/representatives/delegates of Gen-Next were idealistic college students and budding scholars and social critics and artists such as J.K. Rowling, Rob Zombie, and Mark Zuckerberg. Leaders of this 'new school' of pedestrianism-intellectualism seemed like self-proclaimed 'commerce-vigilantes' bent on carrying the bright torch of Gen-X and hoisting eBay and eTrade as real 'trophies' of humankind --- perhaps (hopefully?) a toast to the achievements of the life of Christ and the beneficial 'face' of Christianity in modern media (e.g., EWTN). Comic books presented (naturally) 'youth-oriented' super-vigilantes/crusaders such as Nightwing and Jubilee who would serve as 'capitalism cheerleaders.'

Fortunately, there was a historian and writer named Stan Muse who decided to 'catalogue' all these post-Christ civilization developments in an anthology/compendium simply titled The Evolution of Heroism (which won Muse the Nobel Prize in Literature!). Muse suggested that since commerce, globalization, and modern media facilitated capitalism-dialogue, scholars should focus on the general psycho-sociological forces that shape civilization imagination. After all, what good were toys and toy-soldiers without a proper celebration of the governance-creativity that made such 'artifacts' symbolic of the true value of tools themselves? Muse also suggested that Steve Jobs (pioneer of Apple Computers) was like the new Moses --- leading humanity out of the 'darkness of unintelligibility.' Would commerce-minded U.S. President Donald Trump (a media-celebrity and former casino-mogul) serve as a responsible leader of 'democratic mercantilism'? Democracy was the new Ark...
