China attacking Taiwan ‘all-but-inevitable’

There were some “important messages” in the government’s Defence Strategic Review, which was released on the eve of ANZAC Day, says Sky News host Peta Credlin. Ms Credlin said the most worrying one is Australia is “currently not ready” for armed conflict on any serious scale as about “every defence analyst” now says China is preparing to attack Taiwan. “Democratic Taiwan is never going to submit to communist rule – that means that a Chinese assault on Taiwan is all-but-inevitable,” she said. “There's not much in this review, at least in the unclassified version, about how Australia might help to maintain peace across the Taiwan Straits because believe me America will expect our help.” Ms Credlin said the thing that needs to change is how Australians think about themselves because we can’t honour Australia and its people on ANZAC Day and then “spend the rest of the year denigrating our country and ourselves”.

i'm still saying that it's better to hand that territory over to China, in exchange for a refugee relocation program.

China won't invade Taiwan, unless the Taiwanese try to declare independence.

Neither China nor Taiwan can afford a conflict, they are too economically dependent on each other. If anything, Putin's misadventure in the Ukraine has shown why this is a bad idea.
Frankly no one really knows except Xi.

Xi can't suspend the laws of physics.

In order to invade Taiwan, China would need to two million troops to take the Island, with heavy casualties.

And they would need the ships to move them which they don't have.
Xi doesnt are about casualties

If he lost an entire chinese army and killed half the people in Taiwan it would not bother him a bit

Sure Joe, Xi is a peach

A real humanitarian

Nope. He's a leader. And like any leader, he's going to make decisions people don't like.

But you know what, he hasn't invaded Taiwan. He's actually kept the agreement to let Hong Kong have it's own system, which he's under no obligation to do. Same with Macao.

China also has several internal "Autonomous Regions" that are allowed to do their own thing, including Tibet. (They just can't bring back the corrupt Dalai Lama.)

A leader my ass

He’s a dictator who has a polished image by a captive commie media

So much of china is in trouble under his “leadership” that Xi is skating on thin ice

That would be your little secret.
no, that would be anyone who understands Chinese history and culture.

The problem is, Americans by and large don't.

We could stumble into a war merely by being ignorant.

Here's the thing. China see Taiwan (and Hong Kong, and Tibet, and the Uyghurs) as issues of national sovereignty. For over 100 years - starting with the First Opium War and ending with the Japanese invasion during WWII - foreign powers have encroached on Chinese territory, often by playing on internal struggles. The Chinese refer to this as Bǎinián Guóchǐ - The Century of Humiliation.

For them, any outside power telling them how to run their affairs is an affront. And they see Taiwan as an internal affair. They are willing to tolerate Taiwan's practical independence, but not it's legal independence.
