Rand Paul warns Texas could turn Blue

Everyone points to the Hispanic vote as the reason Texas will turn blue. The tide has turned and it will be difficult to get that vote back

But just as important is the number of people Texas is drawing from other states. Tech and energy jobs are drawing people to Texas. Those people will not change parties just because they now live in Texas. They will bring their political beliefs with them

It's already happening.. Californians, and North Eastern have taken over much of Austin. New Orleans transplants have taken over Houston. San Antonio has been taken over by Mexican Immigration. Dallas is overrun by gangs.

But Texas is still conservative. Why? Because most of those folks coming here are coming here to work not to get on the welfare roles. Do we have welfare? Yes, but for the most part welfare is not a way of life for Texans. Why? Because cost of living in Texas is low, thus having a job means you can have your piece of the American dream here. 2-minimum wage earners in one family can actually do ok here.

No question that Texas is conservative but they are becoming softer conservatives. That old bible belt brand of conservatism will no longer carry the state. Blaming the Mexicans and trashing gays is no longer a path to victory

Texas Republicans will have to moderate their positions or they will turn the state blue

Do you ever do anything but repeat left wing talking points? No one is blaming mexicans, or trashing gays.

Cruz won overwhelmingly doing what the people of Texas want. This whole thread is bullshit.

With Bush they were becoming softer... that donkey is no longer in charge. Texas made a hard right turn (economically) as the rest of the nation turned left. We are becoming more conservative not less. As to your BS about religion... religious views should have nothing to do with the government, and most Texans agree. We don't blame Mexicans for anything here in TX. We work with Texicans hand in hand every day. They are every bit as conservative as the rest of the state.

Mexican immigrants that don't want to work go to California or north east.. they don't stop here in TX.

Take it up with Rand Paul

Texas has a very enlightened view of Hispanics. When I lived in Dallas, the city was so considerate of them that they carved out one third of the city limits, all of it South of the Trinity River, for them to live in.

In typical fashion, you changed the context of his remarks.

from the cite:

"“I think having people who are trying to make the party bigger is good,” Paul told CNN’s Peter Hamby on Friday after meeting with Bush. “The party has to be bigger across the country, not only appealing to people of various ethnic background but various economic backgrounds."

Speaking Saturday night at the dinner, Paul stressed that the country’s top immigration priority should be border security but said the party needs to have a “better attitude” when talking about resolving the country’s broken immigration system.

“People who are Hispanic or Latino, they have to believe that we want them in our party, so it is an attitude thing as much as it is policy,” he said.

One of those messages, he said, should be: “If you want to work and you want a job and want to be part of America, we will find a place for you.”

Demographics of Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to Steve Murdock, a demographer with the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University and a former director of the U.S. Census Bureau, the White American population is aging, while minority populations remain relatively young. As of 2011, according to Murdock, two out of three children in Texas are not non-Hispanic Whites. Murdock also predicted that, between 2000 and 2040 (assuming that the net migration rate will equal half that of 1990-2000), Hispanic public school enrollment will increase by 213 percent, while non-Hispanic white enrollment will decrease by 15 percent.

It is not just Texas but the threat of Florida turning blue which the Republicans need to worry about.

If both those states turn blue it will be impossible for Republicans to be a credible national party again

As to Florida---if the jews in miami ever wake up and realize that the dems hate israel, business, and most things jewish, Florida has no chance of turning blue.

I have never understood why jews vote for a party that hates them.

Tradition. Jews are very good at tradition.

I won't bore you with the details but most Jews vote dimocrap because their moms and dads voted dimocrap and their moms and dads before them voted dimocrap and thei moms and dads before them....

Almost like religion. People don't really understand it, they just follow it because of tradition.

14.4% of Texans live below the poverty line. Texas is fifth in income inequality, after New York, Connecticut, Florida and California. The top 10 of the income is 48% of all the rest. The top 1% is 21% of all the rest. The middle has to decide whether Republican policies are going to get them closer to the 1% or the 14.4%.

“Part of what we are saying in this book is that if we don’t change educational levels, Texas will be poorer and Texas will be less competitive,” Murdock said.

The Kentucky Republican, who was in Houston at a dinner with GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, continued to push his message for change within the Republican Party, bringing that gospel straight to one of the most reliably red states in the country and his former home

Blah blah blah.. get over it. Texas has been, and will always be, right next to Mexico. As such, our blood lines intermix with Spanish blood lines all the time here. I've talked to quite a few 2nd generation Texicans who no longer call themselves hispanic on those stupid forms. They put down white American on the forms, or combination.

I'm part American Indian if you go back 5generations and Irish/British if you go back 3 generations. What should I put down on the forms?

Depends on which college you are trying to get into.

Blah blah blah... and Texas has the lowest cost of living of all the states. Just because we are doing good here does not mean we need over pay for minimum wage or put our welfare enrolls into luxury sky boxes like they do in NY and LA.

The problem is RK, that since the 1800s the border has been more or less open, with families moving back and forth, and mexicans providing labor for western agriculture. Now, suddenly in the last ten years, the gop has declared these people "illegal." Regardless, of policy or anything else, if you piss on someone's family, it usually alienates them.

What he said is quite clear and accurate. Your implication is that the GOP must change its principles in order to get minorities into the party------THAT is bullshit.

Hispanics, blacks, asians, and yes, even white people, want freedom and opportunity. They are seeing how the policies of obama and the libs are taking away freedom and opportunity. Minorities are much smarter than you libtards think they are.

Texas has a very enlightened view of Hispanics. When I lived in Dallas, the city was so considerate of them that they carved out one third of the city limits, all of it South of the Trinity River, for them to live in.

lol..

That law forcing our colleges to take minorities first was thrown out this year, no?

If you crossed the border into Iran without proper immigration papers, would you be in that country illegally?

Illegal is not an insult, it is a term of law.

California could go red. Unfortunately, Republicans/conservatives just write off the state instead of trying to persuade people to support Constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual empowerment.
