Royal Baby Watch

As much as I'd agree that Harry should be King, I guess he isn't what the royal family want. They need someone boring, not someone who enjoys wild parties and killls Taliban. As for the baby, it's leadership credentials won't come under the microscope for years so I couldn't care less.

The royal family in England is pretty much the equivalent of the kardashians here. They really serve no purpose and don't do anything but the people can't get enough of them and they make a ton of money doing it.

and the British Government pays them around 35 million a year. Talk about entitlements.

Member of the royal family = winning the birth lottery.

The biggest winners to me are the Harry types. High enough in the family for all the perks but never have to worry about being the king and all the hassle that entails. Like being the perpetual vice president here.

Yeah I really don't get it. at least make them come out with a fashion line or perfume to support themselves

The royal family has plenty of money in their own right. They are not supported by tax money.

Queen Elizabeth, 85, has an estimated personal net worth of $500 million that comes from property holdings including Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands, stud farms, a fruit farm and marine land throughout the U.K.; extensive art and fine jewelry; and one of the world’s largest stamp collections built by her grandfather.

The Royal Family gets a stipend of 12.5 million a year for their work (yes they work) in promoting tourism and British interests throughout the world. At 85, Queen Elizabeth gets up and goes to work every day. Princes Harry and William are in the military and go to work everyday at their military posts. Much of the money paid to "support" the Royal Family actually goes to the maintenance of the Royal Estate, which are the homes and castles that the Royal Family may use when they wish, but is open to the public.

The Royal Family brings more into the British Economy than the pittance they cost. No American football player would play a season for a mere 12.5 million.

The only thing you have to question,is where the money came from in the first place?
Considering the royal family has been on the public dole for generations,I'd be surprised if they didnt own a lot of shit.

You do know that the decision of who should be monarach isn't made on grounds of who would be "best". It doesn't matter what the Royal Family wants, the lines of succession are the lines of succession.

I'm waiting for a statement from obama on how he was once a baby too. Or maybe it's time for Michelle to come forward to say she's just like Kate.

Harry should be the next King....only one of the bunch who's earned his stripes.

Stripes?
He holds the queens commission.

He has pips not stripes.

William serves bravely as a rescue pilot with the RAF!

Yeah, STRIPES...screw the queen's commission....either he can pack the gear or he can't. Harry got into the fight...Willy didn't...thus, Harrry has earned his stripes and should be king.

They aren't on the public dole. And, they work for what they do get. If the Royal Family is on the dole, so are all the IRS workers in the US.

Its a boy!

congrats!

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I am so happy for the couple who seems so happy. An 8 lb. 6oz bundle of boy joy. Kate wanted a boy and William wanted a girl...lol. I wish them every happiness. This country is losing so many of it's traditions, it makes me very happy to celebrate other happy traditions, anywhere. Blessings to all.

BY GEORGE! BRITAIN'S LITTLE PRINCE GETS A NAME
Jul 25,`13 -- The little prince was in need of a name, and now, by George, he's got one. Make that three: George Alexander Louis.
The announcement Wednesday that Prince William and his wife, Kate, had selected a moniker steeped in British history came as royal officials said the new parents were seeking quiet family time away from the flashbulbs and frenzy that accompanied the birth of their first child. While the news put to rest intense speculation over what name the couple would choose, the extreme interest around it illustrated how the 2-day-old future heir is already on his way to a lifetime of fanfare and public glare. Kensington Palace said William and Kate were "delighted to announce" their son's name, adding that the baby will be known as "His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."

The name George - borne by six kings - befits the boy now third in line to the British throne and was a favorite among British bookmakers, evoking the steadfastness of the queen's father, George VI, who rallied the nation during World War II. Alexander is a name shared by three medieval Scottish kings, and Louis could be a tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, uncle to the queen's husband, Prince Philip, and the last British viceroy of India before it gained independence in 1947. William's father, Prince Charles, was close to Mountbatten, who was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.

The announcement of the name, just two days after the baby's birth, was quick by royal standards. Queen Elizabeth II and Philip took a month before settling on the name Charles for the Prince of Wales. Charles and Princess Diana took a week before settling on William's four names. While a king usually rules under his given name, precedent shows that the prince is not hidebound by George. The first name of George VI was actually Albert, but he picked his fourth name to use as sovereign in honor of his father, George V.

For now, palace officials say, William and Kate are spending "private and quiet time for them to get to know their son." Some of their discussions may revolve around how to shield him from the media. The young prince's relationship with the media appeared to get off to a good start - an encouraging sign for a royal family that has had tense moments with the press.
