The Doha accords timeline for implementation was 135 days. Since no peace negotiation were on the table as defined by that agreement, why did Trump go ahead with the huge reductions in our troop strength, well beyond the 135 days and 8600 troops?

The Generals all assured him that with enough fresh bodies, I mean soldiers, they could take control of Kabul and most of the rest of Afghanistan for just a few thousand casualties. The escape clause meant sending our soldiers back into combat. Joe made the right call, the only call at that point.

But lets look at some facts you seem to be overlooking. The mandated peace talks failed to even start in March of 2020. It was not Biden choice to stay in it. The Choice was Trumps. He chose to reduce our troops by nearly 80% while the Taliban was allowed to ignore most all conditions in the Accords.

He would have been blamed for abandoning the Afghan government and its military and there would have been a refugee crisis all the same.

The humiliating withdrawal was the culmination of more than a solid decade and change of total American political and military hubris, deluding ourselves into believing that we were capable of building a US/Western friendly government there when the last 2 centuries alone would suggest that Afghans will not tolerate foreign occupation, no matter how well-intended we say it is.

I can't disagree that the pullout itself was chaotic and needlessly exposed remaining personnel to dangers that could have been avoided. Biden's first year was, IMO, mostly positive on balance, but there were some WTF?! moments and this was among the most noteworthy.

In the grand scheme of things, though, it's not more consequential than had we moved out in May. If anyone says with certainty they know how to solve Afghanistan, that should ping your bullshit detector. My own armchair Kissinger suggestion would be to privately negotiate with Taliban and get them to agree to be a de facto police force against anti-US terrorists, but even that is easier said than done.

What should have happened is that when we go to war, we go to win. We haven't re-learned that lesson since world war two. That was the last win we had right ? Grenada was a joke. Vietnam was a humongous debacle (loss), Korea was a draw because of China coming in to help stop us on the road to hell. At least we got South Korea separated on the demilitarized line. Our nation has gotten weak, and is getting weaker and weaker due to internal culture's getting stupid and more stupid as we go... The signs of the time's are getting stronger and stronger.
