The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. military and American intelligence agencies have quietly pushed the White House in recent weeks to deny a new Russian surveillance plane the right to fly over U.S. territory. This week, the White House finally began consideration of the decision whether to certify the new Russian aircraft under the so-called “Open Skies Treaty.” And now the question becomes: Will the spies and generals get their way?

Too late, Obama did it first...

On a more serious note.

Thanks Obama for spying on us unconstitutionally, lying about it, then starting shit with Russia and now having them spy on us.

With all the satellite technology what would be the advantage of sending gas guzzling planes to fly over US territory? Propaganda value?

I think we should live up to our treaties. I had hoped that our generals had pretty much given up the notion that nuclear warfare is an option but the cold war is apparently still going on in some minds.

the treaty also allows the US spy planes to fly in Russian territory.....
and it was Booosh that started the spying on US citizens...with the passage of the Patriot Act, which needs to just die and not get passed again...

Well, nobody forced the Kenyan in Chief to sign on with it's continuance.

Don't be silly.

Real time intel that we can't hide. Satellite tracks are well known so when they are flying over we can hide the important stuff till they've dropped below the horizon.
