Israeli jets were bombing and strafing the ship. It was hit over 800 times
And an Israeli torpedo boat fired a torpedo that hit the Liberty but it still didn't sink.
Crew members threw life rafts into the water but the Israeli gunboats shot them full of holes.
So clearly the Israeli's were trying to sink the ship and didn't want any surviver's.
34 US sailors were killed and 170 wounded.
The ship was finally able to slowly limp back to port.
Although, it so damaged the Navy decommissioned the Liberty and it was sold for scrap.
