Sen. Jeff Sessions on 'True Cost' of Big Three Bailout

Free trade helps consumers immensely; and what's good for the consumer, is good for the economy. It sounds like a farce when someone tells you, "The U.S. consumer will be happier if we limit their choices." You should blame our punishing corporate tax rate (2nd highest in the West) for pushing jobs overseas.

I don't see anywhere anybody talking about limiting choices.

I chuckled.

Our trade imbalance, rate of unemployment and underemployment, rate of personal bankruptsies, and the balance sheets in many of our state and local governments tend to disagree.

It's not protectionism that solves those issues, but rather an elimination of government intervention. Trade imbalance is caused by our government encouraged proclivity to consume, instead of save and produce. Punishing tax rates, and spending way more than is Constitutionally allowed to support warfare and welfare eliminates millions of jobs a year, and we see that in a 12.5% U6 unemployment rate. Inflation, which too, is produced by the government, obviously, makes it harder for state and local governments to maintain a balance without raising taxes. They don't have the liberty of a money printing press.

but ignorance about the effects of a trade imbalance are amplified by old farts like Lou Dobbs and Pat Buchanan who don't know how to use computers and talk cars and auto parts all day like it's 1955, never hear them complain about the fact that Japanese cars are designed on Oracle databases with Microsoft apps by engineers using Google to find information
