But now the deal is off. The Boston Globe is reporting that U.S.-based shoe manufacturer New Balance has come out hard against the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal. The odd thing, though, is that "the Boston company had gone quiet [on TPP] last year." Now, apparently, we know why: New Balance officials say one big reason is that they were told the Department of Defense would give them serious consideration for a contract to outfit recruits with athletic shoes. So they're not speaking out because it's the right thing to do, they are speaking out because they made a corrupt deal with the government in return for their silence, and then they were double-crossed.

no one from the government asked NB not to speak out against TPP,

New Balance chose not to speak out against it because they thought they could get the ''exception for Made in America'' for our military changed for athletic shoes, which would have put NB up there in the American made athletic shoe makers for the bid....

Guess THEY CHOSE not to ruffle feathers with the huge opportunity pending....
