Socialist wins seat on Seattle city council

A pure socialist would be demanding that the government take over the means of production.

Not "pure" enough? Here's a quote from the newly elected babe... "you don't learn how to fight to change a capitalist society into a socialist one in school, you learn from the real experience of the struggle". Joe Stalin couldn't have said it better. It's a free Country. If the people's republik of Seattle want a socialist they are free to elect one.

Those who would rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on Paul's vote.

George Bernard Shaw.

Actually it's refreshing to see Ms. Sawant's candor. I expect the warmers and the democrat party base feel the same way. It clears the air about the political process. Let's hear more praise from the left for socialism. Join the revolution you chicken shit a-holes.

More defined
Socialist = government controlling means of production
Democrat = government regulating private industry with some control of the common good.

That's Democrat propaganda. the reality is that no matter how much the government regulates, the Democrats will always push for more until the notion of private property becomes a complete fiction.

Wow, a real live Socialist. <my comment

Seattle voters have elected a socialist to city council for the first time in modern history. Kshama Sawant, a member of the populist Occupy Seattle movement, ran on a platform of raising Washington State’s minimum wage to $15 and levying a “millionaire tax” to pay for mass transit and public education.

Sawant took 50.3 percent of the vote to incumbent Richard Conlin’s 49.4 percent. Even in this liberal city, Sawant's win has surprised many here because Conlin was backed by the city's political establishment.

While city council races are technically non-partisan, Sawant made sure people knew she was running as a socialist – a label that would be politically poisonous in many parts of the country.

ANYONE who promises more freebies, more free lunches, to steal from one group and give to another will win elections.

Reason Elizabeth Warren will win by a landslide. She is a shoo-in.

Taxpayers and producers hope to PEACEFULLY win an election is a pipe dream.

She doesn't give a shit she just wants to be elected.

If there is a bad outcome , and there certainly will be, she will claim that she had good intentions.

or she'll blame it on the TEA party or a Republican but no fault of her own mind you.

Difference
Democrats believe in a hybrid system of government like most of the first world.
True socialist believe in the government handling all of production and micromanaging.

More defined
Socialist = government controlling means of production
Democrat = government regulating private industry with some control of the common good.

A pure socialist would be demanding that the government take over the means of production.

In other words, Obama is a socialist.

NO, thats a Communist, Jake. A socialist would insist on private/public "partnerships" that are nothing more than gov't dictating to private industry what they make and what their policies ought to be. Like firing the CEO of GM. Or vetting their advertising. Or making the banks essentially gov't utilities. Or giving some companies special treatment in bankruptcy to help the unions.
Gee, I just described the Obama Administration. Accident? I think not.

That is actually fascism dressed up in new clothes, but there is no need to quibble.

That does not mean that it is socialism, it means that socialism is the natural evolution of those policies. I know, I know – that is splitting hairs but it does account for the denials that are thrown around.
