This could go in the illegal immigration column, but it is what it is. The medical industry benefits (greatly) from suffering enough without artificial governmental enabling. The New Look for Merica, rough triage in the ER, more critical choices. Most families don't have a spare $5000 sitting around, and the economy has all but eliminated any way to save for a lot of people. Medicare emergency? Sure, just turn everything you own over to the state. You can just imagine the ripple effect in the insurance "community" and more governmental forced meddling. Hospitals Turn to Pay In Advance, In Full

Nothing new. Ive had the high deduct insurance and when wife needed surgery had to pay that before they would even schedule it.

$6250 at the time. Think had to pay $5500 at the door. Ive went back to company insurance but hell those are $5000 still while paying about 10 k a year for the insurance.

Welcome to Reality. THEY WILL LET YOU DIE FIRST.

Covid should have shown everyone what they will do for money.

True, but what has changed is the migration here of unhealthy people who use the ER for primary care and even extended care like dialysis and cancer treatment on the taxpayer dime. This is another debt bubble about to pop like housing and credit card debt that will have to be resolved by some more distasteful and ponzi unsustainable financing that kicks the can down the road. Management by crisis.

Thank Edward Kennedy(the swimmer) for enacting a law that allowed people to walk into an emergency room and get free services. Once that was enacted DC General Hospital in a few years had to close because the free services outweighed the paying services, even though the costs were picked up by the payees. Soon, those payees decided it was better to drive a little farther for cheaper services, and that was why DC went bankrupt. This is the whole idea of FREE, is the bankrupt this country so then the Marxists/Demofascists can come in with their COMMUNISM, and then rule with an "Iron Fist". When you see people walking around with their FIST held high, they are Commies.

Just make sure you avoid the hell of socialist single payer systems. Health care is not a right.

Next they'll tell you that you don't receive fair value for money. Ignore the commies.

The fun this is the US federal govt pays MORE per person for healthcare than the UK govt does. And the UK govt gets a whole free at the point of delivery healthcare system for that. The US gets.... not much.

I recall watching an American news guy asking Brits how much they think Americans pay for an ambulance trip. The first person said "do they have to pay for that"? When it comes to healthcare, Americans are the ayeholes of the developed countries.

It's all the insurance/government collusion that raises the price of everything.

Insurance companies have bribed comptrollers to raise premiums for years, and the Medicare waste is large, too.

Who should pay for ambulance trips?
